The Stripe Path – a Primer for Those Watching THE VOW, Wishing to Understand the Nxivm Sash-Ranking System

If you wear the yellow sash or higher you have ranking in NXIVM.

Many people are coming to learn about Nxivm from the new HBO series The Vow.  And they are doing some independent research to try to learn more.

There is no website in the world, of course, that has more material on Nxivm than the Frank Report, so naturally people are coming on here to read what I have written over the years.

Hedy Philips of Pop Sugar

Hedy Philips of Pop Sugar wrote an article on the colored sashes, quoting from my earlier work and this reminded me that readers, both old and new, might want a little refresher on the sashes and what they mean.

Sashes were [and still are for what remains of Nxivm] very important – for rank was everything in Nxivm.  Hierarchy was all important.

The “Stripe Path” is the means of advancement within Nxivm.

Nxivm’s members are awarded colored sashes, which they are privileged to wear around the neck at NXIVM courses.

The awarding of sashes is based on one’s services to NXIVM.

The decision to promote is entirely arbitrary and was the ultimate decision of Keith Raniere alone.

Prior to his incarceration, it was possible for an attractive and slender woman to make her way up to the top fairly rapidly through personal mentoring by Raniere.

In short, the color of the sash signifies rank.

Rank within Nxivm is also denoted by means of handsome “stripes,” which are added to a member’s sash until she or he earned a sash of a higher-ranking color.

The valuable sashes worn by the august leaders of NXIVM. The cost of the physical sashes may not be high [about $7] but their value in garnering Executive Success is immeasurable.

Let us now examine the ranks:

The lowest rank are “students” who wear the white sash.

There have been likely more than 15,000 whites. Anyone who pays for the course gets a white sash.

At the classes, the white sashes learn to recite praises to the Vanguard,, how to bow before him and learn the secret handclasp.

A white sash can be obtained for as little as $2,000. Pretty and slender women have been known to get them for free.

The next rank is that of a coach, who wears yellow.  They work for free and pay monthly fees to keep their yellow sash. Pretty women, with generous and compliant dispositions, have been known to get a yellow rather quickly after visiting Raniere at his “library.”

There have been 1,000-1,500 who have worn the yellow sash over the 20 years of NXIVM.

Yellow sashes can be obtained for as little as $25,000 in cash and services. Plus annual fees. Each additional stripe – and there are four – cost another $50,000.

Unless one is a young slender woman.

Income in return – zero.

The next higher rank permits a person to be eligible to actually make a [small] salary or earn commissions [for recruiting]. They are called “Proctors”and they wear the orange sash.

I would estimate there have been several hundred orange-sashed Proctors.

Orange sashes have been obtained for as little as $250,000 in cash and services. Each additional stripe costs about $100,000 more in cash and services.

The most expensive Orange sash- with four stripes was obtained by Clare Bronfman. It cost her more than $100 million.

Average income in return for being an orange – $35,000 annually.

Above the orange-sashed ones loom the “Senior Proctors” who wear the glittering green.

There have been less than 20 Greens.

Cost of a Green – $1 million in cash or services.

Ave. income in return: $90,000 [Plus possible promise of an avatar baby.]

[Some have said that the cost of Harvard education is substantially less than getting a Green Sash, but Harvard does not teach the wisdom of the Vanguard.]

Among notable Greens:

Lauren Salzman

Lauren R. Salzman

Green, Edge, 4 stripes

Loreta J. Garza Davila

Green, 4 stripes

Sara R. Bronfman-Igtet

Green, 3 stripes

Alejandro Betancourt Ledesma

Green, 3 stripes

Esther L. Carlson
Green, Edge, 1 stripes

Emiliano Salinas Occelli

Green, 1 stripe*

Omar ‘Cuckie’ Boone

Green, Edge

Jimena Garza promoted to the green sash accomplished her goal of getting six women branded in June.

Jimena “Brand My Pussy’ Garza Davila

Emiliano Salinas [green t shirt] dances with sister Cecelia [also in green t shirt] as they bow to their master Keith Raniere.

Cecilia Salinas Occelli

Dawn Morrison

Edgar Boone is a Blue with two stripes.

The next rank – is that of a Counselor, who wears blue.

To my knowledge, there is only one blue sash  – Edgar Boone – a current member and pioneer of the Mexican recruitment and the bulk cash smuggling efforts.

Cost: $5 million.

Income $200,000 less fees.

The next higher rank is Senior Counselor – who wears the purple sash.

There are presently no “purples” in NXIVM. There have been only three purple sashes I know of in the history of NXIVM.  All three were girlfriends of Keith Raniere

Barbara Jeske – deceased

Pam Cafritz – deceased

Toni Natalie – resigned.

Prefect wears gold.

Beyond the purple is the astronomically high and virtually incomprehensible– Gold Sash – which is worn only by the Prefect.  Her name is Nancy Salzman. She is also indicted.

Beyond that – abiding in the heavens above and not material at all – is the colorless sash [it appears to the naked eye as white] of the Vanguard – Keith Raniere – who is beyond all sashes.

Vanguard speaks to his disciples

Cost to be Vanguard – zero dollars, servicing hundreds of slender and attractive female students, and likely a life sentence in prison.

Keith Raniere, that brilliant inventor sought to patent his sashes. Here is his detailed sketch of his patent-pending NXIVM sash.

What’s with the checkerboard sashes, and what is the difference between the stripes and the borders? LOL

I thought Raniere didn’t wear a sash, but some are saying he wore a white one. LOL

Great thorough explanation of the NXIVM belts.

You may want to post other articles on:

1. Short bios of all the major players.
2. Short explanations of all the umbrella groups of NXIVM.
3. NXIVM vocabulary/lingo
4. Your own impressions and critique of the show.
5. Articles on the work you did with Vicente.
Because they’ll be an arrival of new readers, I’ll be cleaning up my act in regards to dumping on the Amway Cowboy.

The Amway Cowboy welcomes your “dumping,” it brings more attention to Amway and other MLM scams and exposes how utterly stupid you are. LOL

The above description of levels reads just like how Amway works. One has to work through numerous levels of Amway and other MLM scams before any net profit is made and the Amway distributors are losing money all along the way, with the profits from both the Amway profits and tool scam going to the upline distributor scam artists and the Amway corporation. The biggest difference is unlike NXIVM, Amway has hardly any customers who are not distributors, which makes Amway and most other MLMs illegal pyramids.

That’s why education of others who have never joined Amway or other MLM scams so important.

Most MLMs are scams, do your part and copy/paste this message, including this part, all over social media (unless owned/operated by current Amway IBOs or the Amway scam company), and encourage them to do the same, and so on, à la network marketing/MLM. Also, submit a complaint to the FTC at If you don’t, then you’re part of the problem. Amway has 2 major problems, and most MLMs have at least one of these issues:

1. The products are overpriced, which makes them almost impossible to sell to customers and results in Amway being an illegal pyramid: , and also according to the FTC and SEC websites and previous court decisions and settlements; and

2. The Tool Scam is hidden profit for the top level distributors only, and the vast majority of distributors operate at a net loss as a result: This is RICO fraud.

For recent examples, google “FTC” along with the following companies, one at a time: FHTM, BurnLounge, Zeek, TelexFree, Vemma, Advocare, Neora, Javita, Waiora, Business For Health, and Herbalife. Make a complaint on the FTC website:

Although there is no federal law defining pyramid schemes, the FTC has a long and successful track record of using its Section 5 law prohibiting “unfair and deceptive” business practices to go after MLM scams: which states, in part, “Not all multilevel marketing plans are legitimate. If the money you make is based on your sales to the public, it may be a legitimate multilevel marketing plan. If the money you make is based on the number of people you recruit and your sales to them, it’s probably not. It could be a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes are illegal, and the vast majority of participants lose money.”

Read about these and much more at these websites: and, and, and email to help shut down Amway and other MLM scams.

Watch this video about Amway and other MLM scams, then forward it to everyone you know, except for current Amway IBOs, and encourage them to do the same. When enough people know, these scams will collapse:

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
