Dalai Lama & Vanguard capture world’s attention via Daily Mail

Bronfman Branding? Seagram heiresses Sara [l] and Clare Bronfman are funding Keith Raniere's pubic branding of slaves. Critics are calling it 'Female Pubic Mutilation." But Bronfman branding is designed for an 'ethical' cause, supporters say. This photo was taken in 2009 when the two sisters donated a substantial sum to the Dalai Lama for him to appear and endorse Mr. Raniere. The Dalai Lama did not endorse Mr. Raniere but instead asked the press to investigate Mr. Raniere and report the truth and he urged Mr. Raniere to be transparent. Mr. Raniere then devised a secret DOS group, with the aid of the Bronfman sisters.
After accepting a substantial donation said to be $1 million from Clare and Sara Bronfman, the Dalai Lama presents Vanguard with a white scarf costing $20.

The mega story about Keith Raniere and the Dalai Lama in the Daily Mail – which topped the huge media outlet’s stories as most read when it appeared – has been picked up by other media. More will follow suit in the next few days and I understand that the Daily Mail plans a follow-up story.

it is quite a shocking story and was first reported here on the Frank Report.

Besides the Daily Mail, the story also appeared in The Tibetan Sun

New York Upstate.

The Daily Mail was flooded with comments on the story and while it is true that the Dalai Lama very likely meant well in agreeing to appear at a NXIVM-sponsored forum in Albany, NY, the combination of Keith Raniere, Clare Bronfman, and Sara Bronfman and her then-lover Lama Tenzin Dhonden – a trusted assistant to the Dalai Lama – put him in a potentially perilous or embarrassing position.

As one commentator said,  “In trying to raise (hype) the stature of Vanguard, the Bronfmans’ lowered the stature of the Dalai Lama.
“In a recent tweet, the DL said, ‘What’s past is past, nothing can change that. But the future can be different if we choose to make it so. This is no time for complacency, hope lies in the action we take.’
“Let’s hope these words are taken to heart by those in the criminal justice system.”

Frank… why have you removed the post regarding the journalist who was asking for people to tell him their NXIVM stories? Or did that post disappear under mysterious circumstances?

The Dalai Lama’s Office responds to the Daily Mail article: http://www.tibetanjournal.com/index.php/2018/01/25/dalai-lamas-office-clarifies-against-allegation-1-mn-fees/

Is it just me or do they seem to be parsing language? They mention several times in different ways that His Holiness the Dalai Lama does not require or receive payments to speak or make an appearance, yet they don’t come out and say, he never received $1 million from NXIVM or anyone affiliated with NXIVM. A gift officially unrelated to a speaking or appearance fee is not covered by their statements.

The Dalai Lama Foundation wasn’t created until after the NXIVM event. Matter of fact, a week after the event. Wow, how suspicious is that?

https://www.charitiesnys.com/RegistrySearch/show_details.jsp?id={908B8702-9423-41B2-AACD-8491673198EF}

A Seattle tech entrepreneur accused Lama Tenzin of extorting payments from him in exchange for appearances by the Dalai Lama including payments of $250K and attempts to get another $850K. This is a great article about it in the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/27/dalai-lama-tenzin-dhonden-tibet-monk-corruption-accusations

So Lama Tenzin had a way to receive that money as the Seattle payments took place from 2005-2008 so could have received any such payments from the Bronfman’s too. The likelihood that Lama Tenzin didn’t run the same scam on gullible Sara Bronfman is zilch.

I think Hopeful has a great idea – and if enough Frank Report readers agree, I will set up a petition at http://www.change.org to ask the Dalai Lama to donate the $1 million he received from the Bronfman brats to create a Legal Fund to sue them, Raniere, Salzman, etc. What say you, faithful readers?

Excellent idea. Although suing the Bronfman’s who are adept at keeping lawsuits alive until those bringing the suit are bankrupt [they don’t care about the expense to themselves; yes, they are just that vindictive] we should instead demand the returned TWO million dollars be put into a trust so that it may be used to pay for the expensive psychiatric therapies and medical rehabilitations [from forced starvation and anorexia] etc. to be offered to the followers of Keith. Knowing such a fund existed would encourage followers who want to leave but who have little or nothing to return to [not all are wealthy movie stars like Alison] and who don’t leave because of the uncertain futures they face.

I wish DL would return the money and give it to help defectors rebuild their lives

It is not his job to help the defectors. The American society and state have to do that in the first place by finding and punishing those who are responsible in the first place. Only after ensuring that he can do no further harm the victims can continue to lead their own, old life.
Imagine being one of those women, who gave collateral to KR. Do you want some symbolic money from the Dalai Lama or the collateral returned after by a court and KR in jail? The Dalai Lama got fooled and he made a mistake by visiting Albany, no by endorsing the so-called smartest man in the world. I guess others have done worse.

To be fair, the DL didn’t really endorse NXIVM and VanDouche. The tool/technology or whatever, purports to support ethics and compassion, and the DL was lending his support to that because he believes in those things. At the same time, he indirectly made note of the bad publicity that surrounded the group and effectively told them to be transparent and to clear up any misunderstandings.

Obviously, they didn’t listen.

Also, the DL wouldn’t support the near vaginal branding of women, and strictly speaking would never endorse VanDouche’s polyamorous lifestyle. While he is a monk and will never marry, his conservative form of Buddhism only endorses traditional marriages.

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
