HBO announced today that it will offer its subscribers a second season of “The Vow” – the NXIVM-themed docuseries.
The second season will premiere in 2021.
It is not clear how many episodes will be produced. Season #1 has nine episodes.
Per HBO, Season 2 of “The Vow” will offer an “exclusive view” into NXIVM Keith Raniere’s “innermost circle” while delving “into the stories of NXIVM’s top leadership in the US and Mexico, and into powerful, intimate stories of DOS members”. It will also examine the federal trial of Raniere.
The second season will continue to track “the legal and emotional journeys of the group’s founders, supporters and defectors as new evidence and stunning revelations come to light while federal prosecutors and defense attorneys battle for opposing views of justice in a case caught in the national spotlight.”
The first season of “The Vow” premiered in August and followed former members of NXIVM as they worked to bring down the organization from the outside, leaking information to the Frank Report and helping to get a New York Times story published that led to an FBI investigation.
The renewal comes ahead of the season finale, set to air Sunday.
Starz will premiere its own NXIVM docuseries, “Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult,” on Sunday. It follows the experiences of India Oxenberg, who said in a recent interview that she was the first “DOS” slave to be branded.
Filmmakers Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer will return to direct and executive produce the second season of “The Vow”.
Mark Vicente, Bonnie Piesse, Sarah Edmondson and Anthony Ames are expected to appear in Season 2.

I have to say I almost feel you were only mentioned in “Seduced: Inside Nxivm Cult” to throw you a bone and placate you so you didn’t reveal any “inconvenient truths” about the Oxenbergs’ story/narrative. They saw what happened to Toni Natalie. No one directly attacked you, but I bet dollar-to-donuts it was on their minds. Nobody in their right mind would want to lose potential movie deals, book deals, and (my favorite) the lecture circuit…Easy money for a one-hour speech…..The publishers and producers stay away from documented liars.
….Which brings me to the reason for my comment…I hope your book is soon to be released with all the new found attention garnered from the documentaries and sentencing date.

She was not making fun of you at all, Frank. She adores you and that’s clear. We are all a little eccentric or “inconnu.” I am a Cajun from Louisiana and we have our own French patois and speak broken English. So to some people, I may appear a little “inconnu”! I will wear that proudly. I love my culture and sayings, etc. I did not see Catherine that way, I think she admires you, loves you and she needed a personality like yours who could dog his ass like a Catahoula cur dog (They usually have one brown eye and one ice blue one or 2 ice blue ones!). Sometimes you need someone who has that type of thinking and perseverance to shed light on a situation! In the south, we say we put our crazy relatives or ourselves on the “front porch” or living room for everyone to see! We don’t hide our eccentricities.

I find The Vow to be fascinating and very well-done. It is intense seeing, finally, the people about whom I already feel like I know so much, yet do not know at all. I hope Nancy and Lauren are given more focus, and I often wonder about the first inner circle like Karen U. and what she is doing now having spent 30 something years of her life with Keith. How does a person walk away and start a new life? What does she have to show for her time?
The second wave may have experienced more degeneracy on the surface through DOS, but they are young enough to reclaim their lives and start anew. The series has not mentioned the persecuted and imprisoned journalists, the fright experiments, the daycare. The Mexican tentacle of the cult has barely been shown.
The producers of The Vow have done a very good job and for anyone escaping from or recovering from an encounter with a malignant narcissist individual or group, there is instructive and sympathetic content.
Frank Report breaking the news of the branding and the panic that ensued in Clifton Park because of everything being posted here had to have produced Rod Serling levels of paranoia at moles in their midst. They would have known the walls were closing in and the world was watching, closely. Keith and his harem fleeing to Mexico for their lives and winding up with Keith in the back of a squad car should be very very interesting. In other words, we know plenty about the suffering Nxivm inflicted, it is time to see the perpetrators suffering as well. The viewers need some sense of justice in knowing that hell was unleashed as the cult collapsed.
I appreciate the Vow season 1 so far, but I must admit that, as a long time Frank Report reader, I don’t learn so much new information. It’s interesting to see the fight through Sarah, Mark, Catherine and Bonnie’s eyes, and to discover new video archives and so on, but the show is still lacking new important facts about this case.
I would prefer a Season 2 more focused on Raniere’s old guard, Kristin Keeffe and Karen Unterreiner for example. Those women probably know a lot about Raniere’s past, pre-Dos and even pre-Nxvim, and that’s where a lot of mysteries are still located.
Who was The Rat? Who is behind John Tighe’s trial? Was it arranged with corrupt police officers? What about Rodger Kirsopp’s involvement (did Nxivm have collateral against him and played him as their puppet)? What about the statutory rape of Gina Hutchison, Gina Melita and Rhiannon? Human interest makes good entertainment, but the Raniere’s cult is still obscured with a lot of mysteries and secrets. A lot has to be learned. Will Frank Report will try to find new facts about those unknown affairs?
I hope the Rat comes out. She should feel safe now.
Who the rat is, is actually already known and answered. But I am not conducting a trial here in the commentary columns, and I am neither prosecutor nor judge in this case. Should there ever be a suit for this.

I completely agree, Alex. There remain so many questions. I speculate that those who might have felt free to speak now, (including the Rat – I don’t think we know, definitively, the identity), are still afraid to talk due to Clare’s money / lack of remorse / relatively short sentence, and KAR’s bid to have his conviction thrown out. Now, KAR continues to orchestrate his machinations from behind bars. That has to strike fear in those who would talk.

For the love of Thor’s ball sack… Talk about milking it dry… Just put the primary criminals in jail and start asking those who are not in jail, like Emiliano Salinas, [redacted] and others what criminal acts they knew about and ignored. Then shun them. The whole premise of this “documentary” is for [redacted] to play the hero-victim card and for entertainment value for people who had never heard of Nxivm before 2017.

Reading Frank Report is sufficient enough for learning about the ins and outs of the cult. Literally, Nxivm members have admitted to reading the blog to learn more about their own cult. So why watch the vow?
Lots of story still left untold. I don’t know about the “hero/victim card”, how about an unusual story about crime — insidious, sometimes hard-to-pin-down crimes, where many of the criminals are victims too, and where a lot of television viewers are saying, “Wow, I can see how I might’ve been sucked into this organization.” I didn’t feel that way watching the Scientology documentary. NXIVM is a pretty unique thing and begs further exploration. My two cents.
I’ve had enough of the bottom feeders that are still following the principles that Keith refined and dispensed. Everyone with a few exceptions is repugnant. A sociopathic capitalistic cult produced sociopathic capitalist people to render every last shred of misery for profit.
All of you should get matching bar code tattoos to really commit to that commodification lifestyle.
I recommend Bravo for further “documentaries”, all of you fit right in after they apply all the layers of speckle and paint. The pointing of fingers, accusations and denials will last for decades.
