Wow, Bonnie P! Mark V, you were in a shit hole and came up with a wife smarter than all of your friends and associates. She is the beginning for you. See it through as long as she will have you. She is very worthy of admiration.
Sarah Edmondson, you appear much kinder than I suspect you really are. I accept you are a really great salesperson and recruiter. But that was not your only value. Laura is a great salesman as well. IMO, her sale was to get you to have sex with KAR, by seducing you into an affair with her to build into a three-way with KAR so she could have his baby. Complicated yes! But then KAR would own you. Nippy was just his trophy so he could prove to himself how studly and smart he was. KAR: Nippy did not know cause “I am the smartest” and better looking.
Frank, also curious about Nancy wearing a wedding ring in some of the clips. Just image for the courses or is/was this a KAR scam on her?
Absolutely spectacular series. A few comments:
1. It is clearly obvious to me that Keith is a sociopath. His word salad sets off red flags everywhere, right off the bat;
2. Bowing, vanguard, smartest man–who is stupid enough to fall for any of that?
3. Why would you have this sociopath infere with your marriage? Write your vows? Ask your wife to talk to him???
My opinion.
Agreed – red flags left and right. He crippled the willing and insecure with even more self-doubt. Why would grown adults believe in any of this crap- it’s like a huge group of people brought up without parents telling them “watch out for wackos”.

Well, I for one had no hesitation in watching these three episodes in a mini-binge. What a truly extraordinary documentary, with so much actual footage of life right inside the cult and even inside personal relationships. It reminds me a little of the movie “Weiner”, where the politician had someone filming his mayoral campaign from the inside, and the camera just kept rolling while the shit hit the fan.
Just one thing stands out for me right now, somewhere in episode 2, “Viscera”, ESPians are told to extinguish their gut feelings, their intuitions — following such feelings means being controlled by your viscera, hence the title.
When I first started reading Rudolf Steiner, more than 30 years ago, I was struck by his statement that the highest form of psychic ability was to have a developed intuition. This made huge sense to me, and was a big relief, because (except on a couple of occasions) I don’t see auras or stuff like that. The more I see of life, the more I appreciate this intuitive perspective and the more valid it becomes for me.
To be told to crush your intuition — that would be the biggest alarm bell you could possibly ring for me. It’s proof that ESP was directly anti-spiritual, was actually aimed at destroying these people, while superficially “empowering” them to feel they were in conscious control of their lives. In fact, they were being very consciously controlled and manipulated.
Who really strikes me as a hero is Bonnie Piesse, who saw through the bullshit before Mark Vicente. Right at the end of episode 3, she says she finally got a “gut feeling” that something was badly wrong with this group, and that was the beginning of the end. No wonder they worked so hard to eliminate such feelings.
Contrast the “rational inquiry” approach with “Intuition as a spiritual path” … this is an interesting comparison between Jung and Steiner:

I think the purpose of ESPians being told to extinguish their gut feelings, their intuitions–really means disregard all that you have learned in your life (which has formed your “intution”) and only believe what we tell you is the real truth, even if it seems wrong.
At YT, cirstenw, #Qdigs with Mel #14 #NVIXM Revisited, there is a differing perspective about HBO’s soft-glove treatment of its “cultural” subject matter. The speedy, info-packed and not always accurate #Qdigs video was first aired yesterday and goes for more than an hour, mostly about Nxivm’s alignments with the Clinton Foundation, Epstein (Wexner) / Bronfman money-laundering, sex trafficking, and about how Raniere, Nancy Salzman and Clare and Sara Bronfman, like Hubbard and others of his ilk, were and always have been, trying to influence people to view sex with children as natural, fine and dandy.
Does anybody else observe the soft-glove treatment being delivered, oh so cleverly, by HBO’s commercial product, The (ca$h) Cow? Oops, I meant to say The Vow.

Jehane Noujaim understands better than most why so many intelligent, accomplished people were drawn to NXIVM, the self-help group, multi-level marketing company and supposed “sex cult” whose leader, Keith Raniere, was convicted last year of sex trafficking.
She was one of them.
Before she and Karim Amer directed the HBO documentary series “The Vow,” which chronicles the rise and fall of the group, Noujaim had taken some of NXIVM’s self-improvement classes.
It began in 2007, when Noujaim — a filmmaking talent who’d directed the noteworthy documentaries “Control Room” and “Startup.com” — met Sara Bronfman, daughter of billionaire Edgar Bronfman, at a conference on Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private retreat in the Virgin Islands.
The heiress was a prominent figure within NXIVM and spoke highly of the organization’s personal development program. A few years later at the Cannes Film Festival, Noujaim befriended Mark Vicente, co-director of the hit spiritual documentary “What the Bleep Do We Know?” and also a high-ranking member. “Here was another successful, thoughtful person who was telling me about NXIVM,” Noujaim recalled recently by phone in a joint interview with Amer, her husband and collaborator.
In 2010, she decided to travel to Albany, N.Y. — the group’s home base — to take a five-day seminar. She ignored the warnings of a loved one who believed that NXIVM was a cult; Noujaim was interested in what the group had to offer…..

There’s no need to use illegal sites or piracy sites. I’m in Mexico and I use a VPN to watch all streaming services from the US, I currently have HBOmax to watch The Vow, and the image and sound quality are amazing, not comparable to those piracy sites. The Docu series is amazingly well done, visually great and the soundtrack is great! I’ve been following this story for years, and it’s amazing to watch it unfold on the screen like that.
These streaming websites like flixtor.to and kinox.to are illegal to use, at least in europe. By the new law, you can get in trouble already for only watching! It might be different in the US though! So I guess everybody should decide for themselves if they want to use these sites or not.
Lots of things are illegal in Europe, but illegal pyramids like Amway and Herbalife aren’t one of them – they like to take away rights rather than go after the bad guys like we do (sometimes) in the U.S. LOL
It’s illegal to watch child porn in the U.S. as well – fortunately, that topic hasn’t come up yet in the HBO NXIVM series. LOL
I would not consider internet piracy a right that was taken from me. It is criminal.
I never said internet piracy was a right, it’s just that the U.S. generally goes after the pirates, not the pirate followers. LOL
That is one of the many things that makes the U.S. superior to every other country on the planet. LOL
This documentary is done very well. It shows stuff that a lot of us haven’t seen but the branding is unbelievable and happened right next door.
There has been lots of never seen video, but not anything significant, and the branding should be believable by now, as it’s been known for three years. LOL
