Can Ivermectin Be a Cure for Covid 19? Hope and Despair at Ground Zero

By Ken Gibson

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – The plague appears to be leveling off in New York, and Spain has reported the same. But leveling off at a point that reached a death about every two minutes. That news only affords us a glimmer of hope, not yet a quantum of solace.

7 pm is the highlight of the day for us. What once was a nuisance is now greeted with as much enthusiasm as a Yankee rout of the Red Sox at a home game in the Bronx. The sounds of silence are banished with noise, pure noise, each day at the appointed hour. Noise, wonderful noise, loud, raucous, arrhythmic noise, made by trash can lids clanged together in a deafening cacophony as the lead, with a chorus of cheers from every window.

And then we return to our misery.

So the news that the disease may have reached its peak is the best we have. We peruse the net and scan the paper in the hall, delivered in sterile plastic bags through which we read the headlines before the rightful owner takes possession of the New York Times.

Today the news was that despite Trump’s closing of the borders to flights from China, his orders were somehow flouted, and 430,000 people flew in from China; Wuhan contributed greatly to that amount.

Most distressing. Trump orders a closure of the border in time of national emergency, and people who think they know better disobey such crucial orders. Soldiers and sometimes civilians have faced the firing squad for this. Thousands have faced a slow, painful death thanks to these individuals not following an executive order, and the entire economy is in chaos; will heads roll or will the NY Times try to put the blame on Trump, and allow the guilty to carry on?

The first head to roll could well be that of New York governor Andrew Cuomo, who is refusing to allow coronavirus patients to take chloroquine, despite the latest round of medical findings, and the reports of American patients, that it works; one man in Florida was cured with it in 24 hours and says he is feeling great a week later. Cuomo puts us in danger; lacking a cure, patients will not only die, but increase the risk of spread to the entire nation. But to hell with America, some people are saying by their actions, letting in Chinese from Wuhan and putting their own theories about chloroquine ahead of the advice of doctors.

In addition to chloroquine (and hydroxychloroquine), another drug, Ivermectin, is being looked at as a cure. A commentor named Phil on this site was kind enough to mention it, and I just googled, finding that the ScienceDirect journal, Antiviral Research, published an article by a group of Australian researchers from Monash University in Melbourne reporting that Ivermectin appears to be effective at inhibiting the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

“We report here that Ivermectin, an FDA-approved anti-parasitic previously shown to have broad-spectrum antiviral activity in vitro, is an inhibitor of the causative virus (SARS-CoV-2),” the researchers write. “Ivermectin, therefore, warrants further investigation for possible benefits in humans.”

The leader of the research team, Dr. Kylie Wagstaff issued a statement, saying, “Ivermectin is very widely used and seen as a safe drug. We need to figure out now whether the dosage you can use it at in humans will be effective—that’s the next step,” Newsweek magazine reported. “We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it.”

So there is another glimmer of hope, which we need to be looking at. On one hand, we cannot just jump to overly positive conclusions and use it without knowledge, on the other, we cannot allow armchair pundits to prevent its use.

Below is a link to the article from which I quoted, please read it in its entirety and keep your eye on this. Much as I like the 7pm jam sessions in the Big Apple, I would prefer to hear that a cure has been found and is being used, but it chloroquine, Ivermectin, or any other substance.

Ivermectin would be a safer choice for the treatment of the Coronavirus! UCLA, please do some tests with it on COVID-19 patients not just the severely ill ones and also is a prevention for COVID-19!

Chloroquine & derivatives may not be the penultimate cure, but given the choice between drowning in your fluids as your body asphyxiates or taking the drug and possibly having some side effects, I think the side effects are the better choice. It is also poignant to note, zinc is part of the therapy as well as Azithromycin – 3 items, many of these “didn’t work” reports only list trying two of them. Thing is also, its often administered too late, when people are crashing and going on the ventilator its even money its too late as their immune system stifles their lungs in a cytokine storm. If they were diabetic taking Metformin – fatal drug interaction there. So frankly I think it works, but with enough caveats that the harbingers of death (media, Democrats) simply cry “Trump lied” as they are willing to go to ANY costs to prevent his re-election. Murder by proxy would be nothing to them if they gained the Whitehouse.

Ivermectin OTOH has milder side effects, appears it works on its own. Its cheap, abundant, has a very long half life meaning a single dose could last weeks or months (in Africa for one malady its a dose once a year). This means you could have everyone take a dose rendering them impervious to the virus for a time. In that time, all other cases resolve, virus dies off on surfaces so that once the dosing wears off, there isn’t any free virus left to infect (until some Chinese chef decides to try bat balls for breakfast again).

More and more of the trials and experiments underway are discovering enough severe side effects, particularly given the nature of COVID-19 and the patients worst affected, plus interactions with other medications being used to treat it, that it appears the risks may indeed outweight the benefits:

* Small chloroquine study stopped after irregular heart beats detected in subjects

‘”Preliminary findings suggest that the higher CQ dosage (10-day regimen) should not be recommended for COVID-19 treatment because of its potential safety hazards,” the study’s abstract said. “Such results forced us to prematurely halt patient recruitment to this arm.”‘

Here’s some interesting news that highlights the problem that new drugs and treatments are often over-hyped, and in many cases turn out to be less effective and have more adverse effects than initial reports might lead people to believe.

Note that this also points out that hospitals around the world have been experimenting with chloroquine for a month or more, including for more than 2 months in China – with no curative or miraculous results. Many of the breathless recent reports, have failed to take into consideration that experience and what is already known, instead treating it as if trying to use it to treat COVID-19 was a brand new idea as of about 2 weeks ago.

Realistically, it’s still possible that protocols may be developed for administering chloroquine in combination with other drugs, that could provide some help to some patients. At best, it and other existing medications will likely just be parts of a complex treatment puzzle, until something new or a vaccine is developed.

Hospitals in Sweden have reportedly stopped administering chloroquine to coronavirus patients following reports the drug was causing adverse side effects.

‘According to the national paper Expressen, hospitals in the Västra Götaland region are no longer offering the antimalarial medication, with side effects reported to include cramps and the loss of peripheral vision.
….
Magnus Gisslén, a professor and chief physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital infection clinic, told the Gothenburg Post he and others at the clinic administered chloroquine “like everyone else.” But as of two weeks ago, Sahlgrenska University Hospital has stopped all use of chloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19.

“There were reports of suspected more serious side effects than we first thought,” he told the Gothenburg Post on April 1, 2020. “We cannot rule out serious side effects, especially from the heart, and it is a hard-dosed drug. In addition, we have no strong evidence that chloroquine has an effect on COVID-19.”‘

https://www.newsweek.com/swedish-hospitals-chloroquine-covid-19-side-effects-1496368

Also, it’s not necesarily true that somehow “big pharma” is fostering opposition to the quinine drugs because they are old and there are no profits to be made:

U.S. pharma that makes potential coronavirus drug touted by Donald Trump doubled price to $19.88 a pill

One anecdote tells us nothing – the couple in Arizona who tried to follow Trump’s advice and ended up with one of them dead and the other hospitalized, is also an anecdotal case, as are those of people dying from overdoses in Nigeria, and even US poison center reports of overdose cases attempts at self-medication.

Speaking of actual harm, it turns out that the quinine compounds do indeed have significant risks and side effects, as experts, and those of us listenting to those with actual relevant experience and knowledge, cautioned – and particularly in regards to COVID-19 treatment, among the sorts of demographics being and factors like other medications also being used and the particular nature of the disease. Yet another study has run in to serious problems:

* Study On Chloroquine Is Halted After Participants Report Heart Problems, Start Dying

‘A small study on a drug related to the one President Donald Trump has been touting as a “game-changer” in the fight against coronavirus was halted due to heart arrhythmias and other issues in participants, including the deaths of 11 individuals who were involved in the study.
…..
A similar study in France conducted recently (separate from the one Trump and others have touted) also found that participants given dosages of hydroxychloroquine were starting to report heart problems as well. Disruptions in a regular heartbeat is among the many side effects that the use of hydroxychloroquine can present.’

To be honest and rigorous about it – unlike much of the discussion and argument – there’s still some possibility if not even likelihood that quinine compounds will turn out to have some limited usefulness. Researchers need to be left to work at breakneck pace, as they are, while meantime we deal with the reality that there may not be any cure around the corner

Also, back to the topic of the original piece, Ivermectin is another one that will probably at best turn out to have limited usefulness for treating COVID-19.

Finally, as an example of the sort of mass stupidity that can result from irresponsible hyping of false cures – or, another anecdote of sorts:

* Hundreds Die in Iran From Bootleg Alcohol Being Peddled Online as Fake Coronavirus Remedy
> https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/03/hundreds-die-iran-drinking-bootleg-alcohol-methanol-coronavirus-cure-social-media.html

At least in parts of Iran, it’s being reported that more people are dying from such fake cures, than from the disease itself.

Ken, It’s interesting how these anti-parasitics (Malaria is a parasite infection) chloroquine and ivermectin, are proving to have some efficiency with the novel virus. One thing I do know a bit about are parasite infections. My malaria was cured in late childhood with chloroquine, I don’t mind that it left me with a heart ‘flutter’ arrhythmia is not always deadly, it has never affected me. However, I never want to take it again and I am in Africa at least three times a year, these are the simple agents many agree help with parasite infections, possibly they may be of some help now. If ever I pick up a thread worm or other parasite infection, I have turned to these very efficient simples. All the best Ken, Keep well.

If you can find NAC and selenium please consider supplementing with these + full spectrum vits.

Artemesia tea – widely used in Africa against malaria, very efficient, at least as efficient as chloroquine!

Wormwood, BlackWalnut and Clove – as a tincture, ancient remedy, again very efficient.

Diatomaceous earth – efficient detox agent.

Milk thistle – Liver protection, glutathione precursor.

Oregano oil – very powerful anti-parasite agent.

Thank you so much for that.
I am not quite sure what NAC stands for, so could I bother you to spell that one out?
I will look into artemesia tea and selenium etc.
Diatomaceous earth came up in discussion in NYC during the bed bug plague –
it was said that it got rid of Cimex spp., but was for some reason banned.
I used to grow oregano as a chef, and I am looking now to get garlic, ginger and other herbs
started.
What about lavendar oil? Just thought I’d throw that out as I spilled a whole bottle of it
the other day, in fact I had to wash it off my yoga mats.
Tonic water is what I am drinking, my dad told me he could not find any in Arizona.
And I have ordered chinchona bark, in chunks and powdered on eBay.
Housebound like everyone else, I am continuing to write my proposal for medical preparedness in the US
which I started a while ago when I found out the US has no pencillin factories.
I was working on this with congressional candidate Miguel Hernandez, who spoke to Michael Savage about it
in early March. Hernandez, due to some last minute changes in the balloting law, was not able to hit the
streets during all this, and so will have to run as an Independent with a write in ballot. He is running against AOC
in NY 14 – Bronx/Queens. He once built a pharmaceutical plant in NJ.
We cannot rely on the Chinese and I will also be writing on how to get industry back in the US, growing more raw materials,
including hemp (which is a lot more than THC/CBD) and using farm wastes for paper manufacture etc.
Again, thank for your input.

Also, although not a Jim Bakker congregant or anything like, I am using home produced colloidal silver – externally – as it is impressively effective against bacteria fungal spore and viruses, Im hoping it may be effective in bringing down viral load and cleaning surfaces I use it in a spray for outdoor clothing, and yes, I spray my mask, no one knows wether or not it will be effective against this novel virus, but Ive used it for over twenty years, to remarkable effect under some quite challenging circs. I first learned about it in Switzerland where it was and probably is still used to purify the public water systems. That and its use on the International Space Station (a confined space if ever there was one!) endorsed by the Russians the Europeans and even NASA.

I take care, research on the freely available pubmed site, weigh the information against my own particular needs and limitations and then proceed by trial and error. Trying is everything. God Bless you and your city.

Thank you very much, I will. I have actually cut up a pair of copper fabric pyjamas we bought years ago for our Ma who was hospitalised for a while during a sizeable MRSA scare. We think they worked. I made some masks last week on my sewing machine for a dedicated NHS drive – we used cotton ticking – good, but difficult to breathe through. In the end, for us non- hospital setting people, we are going for the 50% reduction offered by t-shirt material which this copper infused bamboo fabric most resembles. I appreciate your calm demeanour L, take care, keep strong, thanks.

The CNN reporters and the media are infected with Marxists pure and simple.
Morons like Racel Madcow, Jim Accosta, Jake Crapper, and Wolf Blitzer report the news with a view towards indoctrinating people into being good Marxist Robots.
Media celebrities like Rob Meathead Reiner and Whoopi Cushion Goldberg regurgitate the Marxist Party line.
Whoopi Cushion Goldberg went so far as to parrot the Chinese line and accuse the American military of creating and spreading the China Virus.

If you want to understand how sick and mentally twisted Marxists and Leftists are there are two good books for you to read.
The first is “The Russian Job by Douglas Smith which describes how Russia’s Communist leaders orchestrated a massive
famine in Russia in 1922 and 1923 where two to three million people starved to death.
The US government sent food aid that saved millions more from dying.

The Russian Job: The Forgotten Story of How America Saved the Soviet Union from Ruin Kindle Edition
by Douglas Smith (Author)
https://www.amazon.com/Russian-Job-Forgotten-America-Soviet-ebook/dp/B07MYX8V6L

The second book is “Red Famine” Stalin’s War on Ukraine by Anne Applebaum where Stalin literally organized the mass starvation of three million people in Ukraine, the breadbasket of the old Soviet Union in 1932 and 1933.
In that case of mass murder a New York Times reporter named Walter Duranty literally covered up the Communist mass starvation of millions of people.

IF THE COMMUNISTS , MARXISTS AND LEFTISTS EVER GET A HOLD OF AMERICA THEY WILL GLEEFULLY ORCHESTRATE THE MASS MURDER OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS BY STARVATION AND DISEASE.
As radio host Michael Savage says, “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.”

I had the pleasure of hearing Michael Savage early in March, when I sat with candidate Miguel Hernandez, who is running against AOC. Miguel and Michael hit it off, 2 Bronx boys, both of whom speak Spanish. Miguel was given the chance to do so by Michael and it was beautiful Latin rhythm, not the Spanglish of the illeterate who populate the prisons here.
Is this the same famine that killed Ukranians and was covered up by the NYT – for which the reporter was awarded a Pulitzer?
Funny, I am still waiting for the NYT to run with my story on Michael Bagley, whom I turned into the DHS when
I knew he was up to some bad stuff; the FBI ended up busting him, but the NYT ignored it. Bagley, who claims he met with Trump and Flynn, worked for Patty Murray and was in with Dems.
Thanks for the tips on the books, I will look for them.

Mr Gibson, you say Governor Cuomo is refusing chloroquine to patients. Is there proof of this statement? I find it hard to believe otherwise. Coumo isn’t a doctor and would seem more likely that it would be up to the medical care providers to say whether or not a patient can or cannot take chloroquine. BTW Chloroquine is found in some arthritis medicines.

Reply to  Peaches

This point was made clear by both Curtis Sliwa and Brian Killmead on WABC in NY last week.

From a google search here is some corraboration:

On March 23, Cuomo signed an executive order restricting the prescription of chloroquine “except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication; or as part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19.

While this does not show a 100% ban on his part, it shows some restriction and slowness that could be lethal. Clinical trials take months if not years. Tonight this issue was raised in the press conference, two reporters jumped on Trump for saying we could use it – and both reporters were totally rude and strange to do so. Trump responded by reminding us of his law allowing terminally ill patients to sign a waiver and try non FDA approved drugs here in the US rather than have to travel abroad to do so. This has saved lives and advanced scientific study.
He laid out the argument that CQ and HCQ have NO lethal side effects. He did not mention that it has recently proven effective – see the 26 March article in the NY Post the headline of which makes it seem that this drug is dangerous and negative, while the facts are quite the opposite. The reporters pester him about having clinical trials – which Cuomo is talking about. AGAIN – how much time do we have?
Do we wait a year as someone dies? If this does not work nothing is lost. If it works, and it has worked, a life is saved. Maybe an entire nation when a dangerous and contagious disease is allowed to ravage while we listen to young punk CNN reporters.

Then there is this from Bezos’ paper:
By Valerie Richardson – The Washington Times – Sunday, April 5, 2020
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has come under increased pressure to lift his executive order prohibiting pharmacists from dispensing the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine outside a hospital or inpatient setting to treat the novel coronavirus.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Sunday that he recently witnessed an elderly man with a high fever arrive at Mount Sinai Hospital, “and the first thing they did before they even talked to him was give him hydroxychloroquine.”

“Why is the governor banning it?” asked Mr. Giuliani, President Trump’s personal lawyer, on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “Everything shows that it works.”

Tried getting TP or bleach at your local supermarket lately? Or how about hospital personnel and health care providers without the proper safety gear because the general public has panicked and gone into every person for themselves hoarder mode. It takes time and resources to manufacture new supplies of anything; should we allow the use of hydroychloroquine as a prophylactic or in mild cases if it’s needed right now to save lives in hospital settings where docs can keep an eye on dangerous side effects?

It might be perfectly safe for people who are not already medically compromised, but it needs doctor supervision if its being used on medically fragile patients – the kind who are dying from this bug. And if you want to argue that a little heart arrhythmia never hurt anyone, tell that to the heart arrhythmia that gave me a stroke and took part of my vision this year.

How about we stop with the stupid ass finger pointing and scapegoating based on political labels and do whatever we can to understand this medical event and work as a group to keep the body count down.

Thanks for the report from on the ground in NYC.

As a fact-check, there never was “closing of the borders to flights from China”: I just checked Kayak.com, and you can still book direct flights between Beijing and San Franciso a couple of times a week, and connecting flights daily. Flights were first just funneled through a limited number of airports (currently about a dozen) where there has been inadequate screening – with some pile-ups in long waiting lines probably having made things worse – and no enforced quarantining. Like many things, the truth has been mis-represented and the situation mis-handled:

430,000 People Have Traveled From China to U.S. Since Coronavirus Surfaced

“There were 1,300 direct flights to 17 cities before President Trump’s travel restrictions. Since then, nearly 40,000 Americans and other authorized travelers have made the trip, some this past week and many with spotty screening.”

‘The bulk of the passengers, who were of multiple nationalities, arrived in January, at airports in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Newark and Detroit. Thousands of them flew directly from Wuhan, the center of the coronavirus outbreak, as American public health officials were only beginning to assess the risks to the United States.

Flights continued this past week, the data show, with passengers traveling from Beijing to Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, under rules that exempt Americans and some others from the clampdown that took effect on Feb. 2. In all, 279 flights from China have arrived in the United States since then, and screening procedures have been uneven, interviews show.’

FACT CHECK – here from a google search: President Trump did also issue a “Proclamation on Suspension of Entry as Immigrants and Nonimmigrants of Persons who Pose a Risk of Transmitting 2019 Novel Coronavirus” on January 31, 2020. This prevents most foreign nationals from being able to enter the U.S. if they have traveled to China within the past 14 days and was widely considered a reasonable step in the coronavirus’ initial phases of spread and contagion ( here ). President Trump issued a travel ban to European countries in March 2020.

31 Jan this year the President suspended entry to persons who pose a risk of transmitting 2019 Coronavirus. I am seeing Ivermectin products but not sure how to use them, one seems as if it is for cattle.

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
