Apparent Word Salad in Emails to Nicole Was Really Raniere’s Deliberate, Diabolical Mind F-ck-ng – But She Turned the Tables on Him

Keith Raniere

In a recent post, Allison Mack’s True Role in the Sex Trafficking of Nicole [Part 1],  readers got to see two examples of Keith Raniere’s ostensible penchant for “word salad” – which is defined as “a confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases – meant to seem profound and deep.”

Here they are:

“It is a scary, difficult journey to experiencing existence with the lightness of true freedom with the depth of love.” – Keith Raniere

Here is a second helping:

“True freedom in the physical world comes from absolute commitment to a principal with no tolerance for excuses or an out, escape. Only then do we find freedom does not depend on being able to do what we want; it depends on not being able to do what we want, yet still experiencing self. Love is only measured through pain. Our ability to feel human pain determines the depth and strength of our love.”

But this is more than word salad, it seems.

It is a deliberate lie meant to mind-fuck Nicole, who he intended to be his slave.

Let’s break down his statement:

True freedom in the physical world [as opposed to a spiritual or mental world?] comes from absolute commitment to a principal with no tolerance for excuses or an out, escape.

True freedom is being a fully collateralized DOS slave – who must do whatever she’s told, because she made a commitment – a vow.

Only then do we find freedom does not depend on being able to do what we want; it depends on not being able to do what we want

Classic Raniere: Freedom depends on not being able to do what one wants and do what Raniere commands.

It is not surprising that Raniere loved George Orwell’s “1984.” It was taught at Vanguard University – his day school where he charged students $5,000 per month to learn more about his unique wisdom.

In the book, 1984, the totalitarian government uses slogans like, “War is Peace”, “Ignorance is Strength” and “Freedom is Slavery”.

… freedom … depends on not being able to do what we want – yet still experiencing self.

The Self? Is this Raniere’s word for the soul or spirit in humankind? Yet Raniere’s whole world is the physical. Look at his demands of women – must be super skinny, long haired, young, no garlic, no pubic shaving, little sleep. Sex with only him – while he keeps a harem.

Love is only measured through pain.

It can’t be measured by any other metric – like pleasure or love itself. Only pain.

Our ability to feel human pain determines the depth and strength of our love.

Isn’t this rascal really setting up Nicole for pain? He brought her a great deal of pain – and I don’t mean just coercing her to be branded with his initials.

The fear associated with collateral – her ultimate escape from his madness – the fear of hiding – the fear of being exposed. The long fear of being in DOS and wanting to leave.

She has had a lot of pain from Raniere and perhaps it continues to this day. I don’t think it’s love.

Raniere is using his position as the authority of the group – moral authority – spiced up with Nicole having given collateral which she knows is damning to her if he were to release it – to enslave her – while using the word “freedom.”

Freedom is Slavery. Pain is Love.

This is Raniere  – for his sadistic pleasure – setting her up to give her pain and trying to make her believe it’s “love”.

In this quote, we see the secret of Raniere’s hypnotic induction program. The same formula used throughout Nxivm – throughout all his teachings – and the reason everything had to be secret:

Artist Marie White’s painting.

***

Those who believed in Keith Alan Raniere, based their faith upon his lie that he is the smartest man in the world – and hence he should do their thinking for them – and that he is the ethicist – the most ethical man – who heads a community with a great ethical mission – to create a more noble civilization – the Nxivm mission – and hence he should tell them how to feel, to behave, and what is right – even what is love – and freedom and almost always they ended up getting a lot of pain and little freedom.

He got people to substitute what they knew was true for what he told them  – which he knew was false.

Raniere wanted to take away Nicole’s freedom and so he called that theft of her freedom – freedom.

This is his diabolical genius. It is not word salad – though it sounds like it at first.

But the happy news is this:

Raniere is in prison. It was “a scary, difficult journey for him to experiencing this new existence with the lightness of true freedom with the depth of love.”

But he did it.  He now has true freedom – for the feds have made an absolute commitment to jailing him – with no tolerance for excuses, no out, no escape.

Now, he can realize that true freedom does not depend on him being able to do what he wants; it depends on him never being able to do what he wants, but doing instead just what the prison authorities tell him to do – and sometimes even his fellow prisoners – always making sure he can depend on not doing what he wants – while yet, I assume, still experiencing Self.

If love is measured by pain –  Raniere is experiencing lots of love  – for prison is a place of pain – and he is truly experiencing the depth and strength of his love – confined as he is – to a life of “true freedom” in prison.

It is too easy to say that the laugh is on Vanguard – for the very woman he told “freedom is slavery” to – a DOS slave named Nicole – is the one who is most responsible for landing Raniere where he can experience love and practice what he preached for years to come.

It was she and she alone who was proven in a court to have been sex trafficked. And sex trafficking is the only one of his seven felonies that comes with a mandatory minimum sentence – of 15 years.

Nicole is the one who guaranteed that Raniere will achieve the same love he wanted to teach her.

That true freedom can be found in prison and that the beautiful human pain that comes with being confined in a cell – 10 feet by 7 feet – will determine for years to come the strength of his love.

It’s a tough call on word salad. Here is the Wikipedia definition:

“A word salad is a “confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases”, most often used to describe a symptom of a neurological or mental disorder. The words may or may not be grammatically correct, but are semantically confused to the point that the listener cannot extract any meaning from them.”

A sign of mental illness, surprise-surprise.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_salad

Now, let’s analyze a quote from above:

“True freedom in the physical world comes from absolute commitment to a principal with no tolerance for excuses or an out, escape. Only then do we find freedom does not depend on being able to do what we want; it depends on not being able to do what we want, yet still experiencing self. Love is only measured through pain. Our ability to feel human pain determines the depth and strength of our love.”

He took ” givens” and altered them. We see this time and time again. And he did this to fuck with people’s minds and make them second guess themselves.

Then the whipped topping was his pile of horseshit about super powers, with sleep deprivation and semen annointment.

In my opinion, this was 100% a deliberate mindfuck and I hope he gets life.

True freedom is no tolerance for an out?

Bullshit.

“Only then do we find freedom does not depend on being able to do what we want; it depends on not being able to do what we want, yet still experiencing self”

More bullshit, newer and improved.

Ask a sex slave that. A prisoner. A person who lives in North Korea.

Biggest bullshit:

“Love is only measured through pain. Our ability to feel human pain determines the depth and strength of our love.”

Pain can be the loss of love.

Love can be holding your baby for the first time.

What this asshole did was take common meanings and flip everything to fuck people in the head.

That’s because he genuinely thought he was vanguard.

And his business model was to fuck people in the head until they truly believed he was VANGUARD too.

He manipulated words, phrases, emotions and people until their perceptions of reality were erased.

He then took their blank slates and manipulated them to his benefit and their destruction.

In my opinion, this is a seriously evil, evil predator.

Fool Me Not,

Here are the answers you seek:

“The Identity of Self”,by Keith Raniere.

Depression is the jubilation of the soul expressing its transcendence of existence.

It’s the acquiescence of the self allowing you to cry and feel pain – all to let you know you have a soul.

You ask what you cannot answer alone because you are afraid to feel pain and test your soul.

Once you test your soul, your identity is found immediately because you always knew where is was. You were just scared to test your conscious soul.

“Fool Me Not” you are simply angry because you have asked a question you cannot answer alone.

Maybe Frank will open a box and you and I can dissect each sentence, and have a contest, “Bullshit or Not Bullshit.”

And the winner gets an autographed book by the Great Vanguard experiencing his freedom behind bars.

And by the way, if you need to explain a single sentence, then the Bullshit meter goes way up.

Hey, my opinion, but it’s all BULLSHIT.

I seriously doubt there will be statues of Vanguard sitting next to Buddas in the gift shop in a few thousand years. I also seriously doubt his book will be sitting next to Homer’s at the library.

I see nothing inciteful into any of his cabbage. I see feeble attempts to justify his self proclaimed Messianic complex.

Technically, I don’t think Raniere’s rambling prose is word salad. True word salad is the “stringing together [of] words that have no apparent connection to one another” https://www.thoughtco.com/word-salad-definition-1692505 Word salad is random words strung together in the form of sentences, literal nonsense. A great example of this– and how it can fool people (especially when the people are foolish) is the Sokol Hoax https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokal_affair in which a physicist got an article of composed of utter nonsense published in a social science journal. Sokol’s paper,

“‘Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity’,[3] was published in the Social Text spring/summer 1996 “Science Wars” issue. It proposed that quantum gravity is a social and linguistic construct.”

Rainier’s ramblings aren’t truly nonsense. They make sense, but they are mere unfounded assertions. Assertions that are arguable at best; I’d say they’re demonstrably false. He’s pontificating in the well-worn language of self-help pamphlets and feel-good religion. It’s a field loaded with drivel about difficult journeys and discovering one’s true existence. Vaguely mystical and important-sounding, it’s mere cliché. Difficult journeys are the only ones truly worth taking, no? Well, not really. But it sounds fine, stuff like that. Love is pain, or as the knuckle draggers at the gym like to put it, “no pain no gain”. Both assertions are simply wrong.

A standard trope of mysticism is opposites united. Freedom lies in not doing what you want. It sounds profound; it’s simply incorrect. Freedom means exactly being able to do what you want.

Some people lap this kind of thing up. They’re intimidated by bold assertions that sound philosophical. They are fools. Anybody with an iota of self respect would laugh in Raniere’s face. Or at least question him. “What do you mean, love is only measured through pain? No it isn’t.” Rainiere posed as a teacher, a philosopher. What kind of teacher expects his students to never question him? These minions of his simply sat back and absorbed his ridiculous pablum. What a bunch of dumbasses.

How about “pseudo-profound bullshit,” an established term I commented about earlier (below)? The article I cited, used Deepak Chopra’s Twitter feed as the canonical example. The scholarly authors even received an Ig Nobel Peace Prize for their work:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ig_Nobel_Prize_winners#2016

(Sokol’s paper was also a prize winner, in 1996)

I like your perspective, that Raniere’s statements contain unfounded assertions. But, at least overall, I think they are also an attempt to indoctrinate in such assertions or other inferences, by imposing direction under the guise of dialog or inquiry, much like the Marxist-Leninist supposed “study sessions” of totalitarian communist regimes.

I like Michael Shermer’s summary of Deepak Chopra’s droppings as “woo-woo nonsense”. Fuzzy pseudo-profound bullshit is the stock in trade of the spirituality industry, where abstraction is layered upon abstraction all the way up the airy heights. It may sound profound, but it’s all just puffery.

I have little patience for spirituality, metaphysics, or theology. None of it is anchored in reality.

I remember when my sibling was in the Baghwan’s Rajneesh group, I was given some of the leader’s writings and it was (similarly) a load of rubbish.
At least the bible is a bit more straight forward. Do not kill. Love one another. That kind of thing we can understand but these cults seem to come up with ludicrous complex sentences which when you get into the sentence are clearly ridiculous or nonsense.

KR is not stupid. He could have been successful at something without hurting anyone at all but he went down this really bad path.

Religious writing is by its nature filled with mysticism. Often it’s utter nonsense. Zen koans, the babble of New Age cults, and the Bible too. I give you Isaiah 14:

Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

19But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

George Orwell’s “1984” is supposed to be a warning, not a blueprint for how to run society.

Orwell as a writer treasured clear speech.
Orwell treasured words that had real meanings and were used correctly.
Meanings that all educated people could understand.
To Orwell words that were twisted around were words used not to inform but to enslave.
Twisted words were an obscenity to Orwell.

Of course Raniere is not the only person to twist and warp words.
Governments do it all of the time.
Genocide is called “ethnic cleansing.”
Bombing a country back to the stone age is called “pacification.”
Corporations talk about “downsizing” or “right sizing” when they really mean firing their work force wholesale.

I notice when I read the writings or comments of people who have been in NXIVM that they all communicate in code words that twist commonly accepted meanings.
If you disagree with Raniere or NXIVM’s teachings you are suffering a “disintegration.”
In reality you are engaged in clear thinking and realize that Raniere and NXIVM are full of crap.

Keith Raniere is a Fascist pure and simple.
His followers whether they know it or not are Fascists.

When Allison Mack and Dani Padilla get excited about receiving the Vanguard’s Sacred Sperm and breeding new babies to raise communally they are acting like the League of German Maidens who staffed the maternity houses run by the Nazi SS in the Lebensborn program.
Nazism is a subset of Fascism.

When Allison Mack tried to use starvation against India Oxenberg as a tool to manipulate “Nicole” into sexual behavior she was engaged in a form of Fascism which used starvation to keep workers docile.
Allison Mack the good Liberal was as Fascistic as Heinrich Himmler.

(To all of you mentally deficient Allison Mack fans there was testimony at trial alleging that Allison Mack was using the starvation of India Oxenberg to control India’s friend “Nicole.” Allison Mack is a Fascist and she is too stupid to know it.)
Allison Mack allegedly starved ‘Dynasty’ star Catherine Oxenberg’s daughter India
“Ex-member “Nicole” testified that “Smallville” actress and alleged slave master Allison Mack was so manipulative, she’d threaten to starve Oxenberg’s daughter India even further to ensure that Nicole remained obedient.”

Mary White’s paintings are like a Picasso with venom……

Her paintings completely eviscerate and emasculate the man known formerly known as Vanguard.

I think her paintings are like an x-ray of the soul of Keith Raniere.

She tears away the carefully constructed facade and mask that Keith Raniere wore……

And we see what is behind the metaphorical curtain ….. a despicable, cowardly, wretched, disgusting, soulless, and evil man.

Mary White’s Vanguard collection truly is a contemporary pop culture masterpiece that showcases an evil cowardly cult leader. My mother is a good artist. Mary White is a great artist.

Best wishes Mary White!

Peaches,

I think “Marie” White’s paintings will stand the test of time.

If she rebrands them as an interptation of male misogyny.

I also think her paintings correspond to the “feminist” perspective of the male patriarchy.

My personal opinion, sadly, is that her paintings accurately depict about 30%- 40 of the male human global population and about 20% of the male US population.

If you think men suck and are dogs in the US you will appalled to see how men are throughout the rest of the world.

Outside of Western Civilization the rest of the world has a old school perspective of women.

I hope I was not too long winded.

There’s actually a term of art for that which is not quite so random, as used in the scholarly literature (!) – “pseudo-profound bullshit,” for example in the title of this research paper:

On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bullshit
“Although bullshit is common in everyday life and has attracted attention from philosophers, its reception (critical or ingenuous) has not, to our knowledge, been subject to empirical investigation. Here we focus on pseudo-profound bullshit, which consists of seemingly impressive assertions that are presented as true and meaningful but are actually vacuous.”
“In On Bullshit, the philosopher Frankfurt (2005) defines bullshit as something that is designed to impress but that was constructed absent direct concern for the truth. This distinguishes bullshit from lying, which entails a deliberate manipulation and subversion of truth (as understood by the liar). There is little question that bullshit is a real and consequential phenomenon. ”
http://journal.sjdm.org/15/15923a/jdm15923a.html

The first example Frank cites seems like relatively harmless word salad. But in cults and and high control groups, such partly serve the purpose of something like the “confusion technique” used in suggestive manipulation and conversational hypnosis, in which subjects are deliberately left searching for the meaning, which gives the operator an opening to insert their own suggestion or direction. This is a play on the same psychological processes and cognitive bias at work in what is known as anchoring, in which we tend to accept the first information given to us. *

The second is a devious construct also typically used by the leaders and gurus of such groups, in which a concept that has some rational basis and merit – such as that when constrained by difficult life situations (work, illness, disability, etc.), freedom and joy can be found nonetheless – is taken to an extreme that serves the aims of indoctrination and control. In this case, as Frank well illustrated, it’s used to try to get the follower to accept pain and slavery.

* anchoring
“The first thing you judge influences your judgment of all that follows.
Human minds are associative in nature, so the order in which we receive information helps determine the course of our judgments and perceptions. For instance, the first price offered for a used car sets an ‘anchor’ price which will influence how reasonable or unreasonable a counter-offer might seem. Even if we feel like an initial price is far too high, it can make a slightly less-than-reasonable offer seem entirely reasonable in contrast to the anchor price.

Be especially mindful of this bias during financial negotiations such as houses, cars, and salaries. The initial price offered has proven to have a significant effect.”

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
