The rarest of V-Week videos [I saved the best for last]. It is Keith Alan Raniere himself, on stage, talking to his adoring audience about life’s deepest profundities.
In the speech he admits that he is a demon, a rare burst of honesty on the illustrious one’s part.
He is also about to introduce his pride and joy, the singing group Simply Human.
Here is a rare glimpse behind the scenes of Vanguard Week – with the Vanguard on his birthday.
Below is the full text of his speech at V-Week 2016. Raniere is onstage to introduce the vocal group Simply Human:.
Oh wow it’s bright up here. Please be seated if you’re standing. I can see little heads. Hey is interesting what you were saying. The themes of vanguard week and what it’s about normally announces itself before the week. And one of the issues that have come about is our community how valuable how important, how meaningful do we want it to be.
And we give things meaning. I’m not the first one to say something for example like justice. We like to think about justice but justice is something we earn. Justice doesn’t fall from the sky where we are all just these passive recipients you know sitting on the beach with a drink or something like that and justice is there.
Likewise words like honor, concepts like honor, we need to empower that with meaning. And meaning doesn’t sit there oh yes Honor huh? That’s very meaningful. The way we make things meaningful is we hurt for them. We pain for them. And the strength of a community is how much effort that community will put against adversity in any of these things.
So in-line with that we’ve had for a good number of years an organism called Simply Human. And that has had many types of incarnations. There is still some people from the very beginning that are all the way through. Other people have come and gone. And recently Simply Human for a number of reasons has had a personnel change different things that were going on within it. And there was a real question of Simply Human. Should it exist?
Should it go on this year. And more than even Simply Human going on, what does that mean to the community? That here you have a thing of the community, And certainly things come and go, But you just let any identity go. And the answer was no.
There have been a number of things this year that needed to be fought for to bring our community strength.
I am very devilish. I think I am probably the worst coach in the world because I am just a demon. You know if I am coaching you I am going to have you do something with your left hand, your right hand, your left foot, your right foot, your head, and then I am going to ask you to, you know, just the hard thing. So I do this and it is with a twisted sense of pleasure in someways.
The extra effort being able to pull effort out of others and Pull effort out of myself. So here we are coming into V week. And the people involved in Simply Human and other things there. I can’t tell you how much they took on this year. The artistic and musical piece that you saw was original. Completely.
So we have people who are involved in Simply Human involved in doing that. We have The arts performances, we have them doing all sorts of different things. And they’re in the middle. They are putting all this stuff together and I go up to one of the Simply Human people and say ‘ you know I think we need to have a Simply Human performance. ‘
They said you’re kidding. I said no. So we started. And It started out as A little seed of a performance. So we said OK. should we do One personnel that we can get or pull other people In.
Well you know when you pull other people in it’s like a whole new dynamic. we pulled other people in. Two new people in. And This idea just started to just to evolve. Does this like two weeks before now. It’s like two weeks ago. Not even that it was oh well here is like three months we can have this thing. Let’s throw everything together. They come on campus Here and start rehearsing. And what evolved from it was an incredibly, at least for me, emotional piece. Simply Human is far more than being just A sing type of band. It’s a unit that’s created to express things that are meaningful and more importantly transformative to humans. And what you are about to see is an incredible work in progress. This has evolved even with in the past day. Its growing by itself. And it’s a series of songs organized around a principle to make a piece in itself. And it’s I think different from anything certainly they’ve ever done and evolving towards something that I think within performance arts, even within education and expression. Is something that is very very important.
But of course to make matters worse we didn’t pull in just Simply Human. We pulled in intra?
You will see a group of people here Simply Human and beyond that took and Incredible step and put it in incredible efforts to make this happen. And you will be seeing stuff again that hasn’t been done till today.
And it is with the greatest gratitude, tribute and just awe that I will, if I can, hand over the mic to Simply Human. Thank you.

I know I’m late, but…tha fuuuuuck is he talking about?! That’s not even word salad, that’s a disgusting misunderstanding of the English language….salad – at least good salad – at the very minimum is cohesive to the palate…this is nasty. Like when a kid makes a “salad” and dares another kid to taste it. Bizarre but delicious is what we used to call that game. 😂 but it was NEVER delicious.
If you dissect his statements, nearly everything he says is bizarre and hogwash.
I think he just liked to hear himself spew horseshit.
From what I’ve seen of him in online videos, he comes as across as a very unimpressive, rather dopey figure, but one-on-one, with a susceptible and suggestible individual, his NLP mind-tricks might create a more pleasing impression.
Both Raniere and Nancy Salzman were very skilled users of covert hypnosis. They used it with everyone all the time.

Why is video footage of the World’s Smartest Man still so hard to come by online? Surely there are thousands of hours of NXIVM video out there. I thought much more of it would leak out with KR in jail and CB awaiting her fate and otherwise preoccupied. Likewise the NXIVM “modules” etc.; I’m curious to look at this stuff but it still seems to be very scarce online.
Any actual NXIVM videos are part of their corporate property, and covered by their intellectual property rights. The material is probably somewhere like a federal seized property warehouse, but NIXVM still has corporate attorneys who might act against anyone posting any of it.
Frank had a bootleg of part of a session with Nancy Salzman posted in a piece a while back, but YouTube now shows that the associated account is gone.
NXIVM seems to have guarded their materials pretty zealously, so I’m not sure how anything would leak out, and it could probably only be hosted on foreign servers like RUtube (I checked, and they don’t have any) as long as there’s risk of IP enforcement.
Some stuff may eventually leak out, but it could be quite a while. It occurs to me that closed Mexican centers are one possible source

No. Justice isn’t something we earn. It is not like money, skills, or knowledge. It is a condition or a state of Reality that presupposes the idea that beings within it conform to their proper places. If they do not, then the opposite state, i.e., injustice, occurs. If the former is maintained, then order and harmony is the result. If it is not, then disorder and cacophony is. This meaning of justice presumes a number of things. First and foremost, that teleology exists and is ontological, i.e, a fundamental nature of Reality. This implies that there are essences and a hierarchy (or priority) to beings, i.e., what makes them what they are and why. If beings don’t conform to their essences, then they can be labeled as deficient. In the arena of ethics, the idea of justice takes on additional meaning. Morality presupposes free will, i.e., the human ability to voluntarily choose, and the concepts of right or wrong human behavior. The latter is just the application of the concept of justice to the self or other beings, human, animals, Nature, etc. In other words, as a human being, if you engage in right behavior – which is just giving beings their proper place according to an objectively defined hierarchy of being – then you are behaving morally. If you don’t, then you are behaving immorally. Morality implies and ought to how human beings should act.
So for example, let’s presume you say you love your husband or your wife. Marriage between a man and a woman is the apex of human romantic relationships in the common meaning of term. If you sleep around on your partner without their knowledge, i.e., cheat on them, then you are being unjust to them because you are displacing them with someone else from their proper place of being. Or if you say you love someone but your actions don’t conform to what the meaning of such a term entails, then you are being unjust to them because you are not recognizing their proper place in the hierarchy of being. The greater the displacement from its proper place or the the higher the position in the hierarchy of being of the being you are being unjust too determines the enormity of the injustice. If you behave unjustly, you are first and at minimum unjust to yourself, and can also be so to other beings if your behavior improperly affects them.

This is an ass-backwards summary that is putting the cart before the horse. We don’t make things meaningful by hurting for them. We hurt or pain for things when they remain unresolved due to their meaning to us in the hierarchy of being, and they remain unresolved because they aren’t in what we consider their proper places in it, either objectively, or subjectively, which is reflected as injustice in Reality, or injustice to against ourselves.

Also, it strikes me that Raniere is engaging in redefinition of words, characteristic of high control groups or cults. In this case, very similar to Scientology, he’s probably tending towards the ideological construct that justice is something earned by loyal and productive followers – and denied to others held unworthy because they are “parasites” or “suppressives.” In Raniere’s case, it’s influenced by his reading of Ayn Rand; in Scientology, Hubbard was a contemporary of Rand and part of similar Hollywood circles in the 1930s and 1940s.

The underlying experiment is actually rather clever and enlightening, in which they combined quotes from actual sources such as Deepak Chopra’s Twitter feed, with random but grammatically correction constructions from others such as “The New Age Bullshit Generator,” and then asked participants to rate the profoundness of them.

It’s pretty amazing how any human can claim he is a god and better than you and convince so many people that.
His speech was nonsense. But with nonsense people buy your crap. False advertising always works.
Raniere may have said to his followers that “justice is something we earn,” but in the courtroom in Brooklyn, he took on his more accustomed real-life role as covert victim – complaining about justice and, at least implicitly, blaming some sort of conspiracy against him.
His association of hurt and pain with meaning is an odd one, rather than say talking about it in terms of something like longing. It’s been pointed out that in the context of DOS, he used similar constructs to get followers to sacrifice for him and submit to his control. It strikes me here that it could be seen as part of the sort of yoke of NXIVM itself as a kind of indentured bondage (I think the name does refer to Roman nexum, and its nexi or nexium).
Agree with you AM. Raniere preached not to be a victim, but his actions did the opposite; hiding from the cops in bedroom closet, trying to silience his critics with lawsuits, inferring he was dying or throwing up blood because one of his disciples disobedience, etc.
