Roger Stone arrested by FBI on Mueller probe on alleged ‘process crimes’ ; not charged with colluding with Russians

Roger Stone

Roger Stone was arrested Friday morning on charges stemming from special counsel Robert Muellers’ Russia investigation.

Stone is charged in a seven-count indictment with what are called “process” crimes – that is, crimes that have nothing to do with crimes under investigation but were allegedly committed during the process of the investigation.

Stone is charged with witness tampering, obstruction and false statements about his interactions related to the release by WikiLeaks of allegedly hacked emails during the 2016 presidential election. Some of those alleged false statements were made to the House Intelligence Committee, according to the indictment.

Stone is not charged with colluding or coordinating with the Russian government’s election interference in 2016, the key matter under investigation in the Mueller probe.

In the 19 months he’s been at work, Mueller has not yet indicted any American for collusion with Russians to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.

Stone is scheduled to appear in court in Florida at 11 am. The indictment had been expected. Stone has said for months he was expecting to be charged. He denied any wrongdoing.

In social media posts and interviews before the 2016 election, Stone boasted that he had some advance knowledge that a trove of information connected to Hillary Clinton’s campaign might be leaked to the public by WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange.

It turned out Stone was right but was merely echoing what Assange had already publicly said and advancing some theories that sources of his told him. Evidently, Stone did not speak with Assange directly and had no direct knowledge of whether or not Russians were responsible for the alleged hacking of leading Democrats’ emails.

Stone was not charged with having any connection to the alleged hacking or leaked emails or their publication. He was charged primarily with lying about it after the fact.

Stone has repeatedly said that Mueller’s investigation is a politically motivated witch hunt.

“The Mueller investigation is supposed to be about Russian collusion, but it is nothing more than an effort to silence or punish the president’s supporters and his advocates,” Stone told Artvoice.

The indictment is another in a long list of indictments Mueller has charged friends and associates of Trump with – process crimes.

That list includes:

George Papadopoulos, lying to the FBI. He got a 14-day prison sentence.

Paul Manafort and Rick Gates:  charged with hiding lobbying work in Ukraine and money made – from the US government, as well as other financial crimes. Gates pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States encompassing the Ukrainian lobbying and money allegations, and a false statements charge.  Manafort was convicted of subscribing to false income tax returns, failing to report his foreign bank accounts, and bank fraud.

Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about activities after the election.

Richard Pinedo a petty crook looking to make money selling stolen identities to people he didn’t know. He was sentenced to 6 months in prison and 6 months home detention in October.

Alex van der Zwaan, a Dutch lawyer, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI related to his Ukrainian work with Gates and sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Konstantin Kilimnik, charged with attempting to obstruct justice by tampering with witnesses in Manafort’s case.

Sam Patten, a Republican lobbyist, pleaded guilty to not registering as a foreign agent with his work for Ukrainian politicians.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, pleaded guilty to five tax counts involving his taxi business and other financial transactions and bank fraud and participating in a scheme to violate campaign finance laws in connection with hush money payments to women alleging affairs with then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. The charges had nothing to do with Russian interference. Cohen also made a plea deal with Mueller for lying to Congress about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, which had nothing to do with Russian interference in the 2016 election.

To date, no American, let alone any Trump associate, including Roger Stone has been charged with crimes relating to colluding with Russians to interfere with the 2016 presidential election.

  • I seem to recall that Roger Stone was the person who got Frank involved with NXIVM in the first place. Not in a nefarious way, just by way of introduction.

    • I’m unclear but got the impression that Roger (along with Steve Pigeon) was somewhat instrumental in arranging a very attractive, NX employment or contractor package for Frank. I believe, however short-lived, it included a hefty monthly fee, free room and board at Clare’s sprawling, multi- mansion ranch and all the adoring pussy he dared freely claim at risk of pissing off KAR. …With the possibility of betrothal to a young billionheiress who’s not really half bad. She’s got a great figure(s)!

  • Hmmm.….

So Mueller spent our tax dollars to get a SWAT team to arrest a man for allegedly lying?

could have simply called his lawyer to bring him in for processing. But that would not make Video News Splash for the Weekend Mocking Bird Media.

  • Interesting that Clare Bronfman can fund a human trafficking cult, and walk herself in when her indictment was unsealed, but Roger Stone gets a morning raid with a low-grade news network getting the body cam footage instantly for petty charges.
(Pretty sure it was body cam footage, and not that they were invited as long. Either is egregious.)

    • That low grade news network has more credibility than Fox News and the New York Post combined. BTW, Clare and NXIVM are under investigation.

      • According to who? The alt left lackeys. Seriously dude you don’t shit from shinola trying to defend corrupt CNN. This will also blow up in your phony face just like everything else you anti American leftists have tried.

        • … There is nothing left but ad hominem arguments. Just claiming that they are corrupt does not make it a fact. These are the same ‘alternative facts’ aka lies Fox News, Trump and Sara Peebrain Sanders are publishing every day….

      • CNN is pure unadulterated trash spewing lies and propaganda from the so-called “left.” Fox News is pure unadulterated trash spewing lies and propaganda from the so-called “right.” Both exist to further the agendas of the uber-wealthy rulers who own the American government. And that goes for the NY Times, Wash Post, NY Post, and all the rest. They shape the bullshit narratives and the gullible American public actually fucking thinks there’s some big difference between them from the standpoint of “credibility.”

        There isn’t.

Both “sides” of the mainstream media long ago abandoned the pursuit of truth in exchange for becoming unquestioning mouthpieces of the military-industrial complex and the wealthy elite.

That doesn’t mean they don’t tell the truth on occasion. But that’s just to keep the charade going.

If a well-known figure on the “left” was being arrested, Fox News would’ve been right there, just like CNN was right there.

The MORE IMPORTANT question is: why was ANY media tipped off and allowed to come along while a SWAT team arrested an elderly man when they could have just knocked on the door and asked him to come out?

The answer: to make the propagandized dipshits who worship Trump get riled up, AND to make the propagandized dipshits who hate Trump get riled up, when they SHOULD be getting riled up that the government turned the whole event into a fascist spectacle and that we’ve normalize the idea that SWAT teams are heroes who are keeping us safe, when they are actually just reminding us that we are under their control.

Haha, but hey, if arguing about CNN vs FOX is your idea of high-minded political discourse, have at it.

Thankfully, we still have some alternative media around (including sites like Frank Report) who are interested in reporting what’s really going on, rather than kowtowing to their corporate controllers.

        • YUP, Mocha. It’s scary this political tribalism, ad hominem, ad nauseum that’s lost sight of any real leadership representation of the American people. And we’re just giving it away to the growing ranks of the power-corrupt elite formed of ill-gotten gains and mass deceit.

God HELP America if this keeps up.

      • Hey willard, since you think you are the smartest guy in the room, one question

Does the FBI normally have CNN with them when they are arresting people?

    • Is Clare an advisor to the POTUS? Do you know what information Mueller has uncovered? Why in the world would a team of FBI agents arrest Clare for “funding a sex trafficking operation”? There’s nothing unusual about the way police handled Clare’s arrest, and she has nothing to do with high level politicians in the WH, so why are you comparing the two?

      • That’s the point, there was no reason to raid a 66 year old man’s home at 6:00 am. It’s not like the arrest was a surprise. They could have easily knocked on the door during the day, or gone there while he was out of his home. This was all for show, and a lot of us are not impressed.

  • And this is related to NXIVM in what way….? An intelligent person such as yourself is also a Trump supporter? Such foolishness.

    • This is not related to anything, but it is nice to know. Just compare this story and the comments to Gillibrand articles. It should be pretty obvious that half the writers here are morons with a glowing tinfoil hat.

Look at Gillibrand, called Sillibrand or political lightweight here. She was with some NXIVM people years ago and might or might not know about her father’s business with these people. She gets accused for accepting campaign donations – something Republicans would never do, as you cannot bribe Republicans at all.

At the same time Roger Stone gets defended and Mueller is accused of being a Democrat. The so-called DC Insider even believes he might be murdered. At the same time even Trump himself quoted Mueller when it came to the Buzzfeed article. These people cannot be helped anymore.

      • Buzzfeed…. you take the cake. NBC has 200 million invested in that fake news site. …. I hope Parlato lets this go through. He has filtered comments directed to you… before.

      • Buzzfeed?????? Talk about tin foil. You are broiling in tin foil pal. Buzzfeed is paid by NBC to put out lies.

      • @ FDC — Let’s be frank. Both Stone (for an instant) and Gillibrand were connected to NX for the same reason — the possibility of Bronfman campaign support and donations. And, your Kirsten also got to rub elbows with the DNC likes of Hillary Clinton through her NX family ties.

The facts are clear as to what degree either might have known a pair of psychos — KAR and Nancy — were in control of that gold mine. Stone, clearly, was in no position to guess; wasn’t subject or object of Nancy’s matronly sexual harassment claims and other suspect absurdities the way Gillibrand’s family was, intimately.

Further, as Senator, Gillibrand has a duty to protect the denizens of her district from the criminals she, at least, admits she recently read about in the local paper. No matter what embarrassment NX convictions might bring to her Presidential campaign, she owes it to her constituents to push for State and NDNY Federal convictions — especially since NX WILL go down in EDNY and in history now — there’s no lessening only deepening Gillibrand’s NX humiliation if she continues to do nothing to help bring about justice.

        • The problem we are at is a simple one. It is not about the crime anymore, but about the party affiliation of the offender. Just look at one of the first commenters. The person was putting up a straw man argument, saying he was arrested for lying.

This straw man is a lie in itself, as he was arrested for lying UNDER OATH, among other things. For this lying under oath, the Republicans tried to impeach Bill Clinton. Just put this into perspective.

Due to the fact that KAR might intimidate witnesses, there is no bail for him – and the people here say it is right. Stone is accused of the very same thing and people here say Mueller did something wrong and wasted tax money. Where is the difference but party affiliation?

The same thing happens when you compare Stone and Gillibrand. It is very likely that both took money for their political goals, yet only one side gets flak for it.

I am not saying that Gillibrand is a good person and I never met her personally and honestly, I do not care. On the other hand we should not assume that she is a bad person for being a democrat, while republicans are are good Christians, pro life and always innocent.

          • Exactly the point, FDC. And if you look at the facts, the blind inequity based on party affiliation is weighted far more against Stone and his cronies not Gillibrand and her ilk. (For God sakes, the woman is using her party and her sex — her vagina — to mask the truth about her priorities, her record, her hypocrisy, her lies “for the cause,” and her ineptitude at preventing crime and the corruption that breeds it in her own backyard and own household.)

Albany, NY nearly became an anchor-baby port with Gillibrand as its mid-wife!

As for Stone, if you ask me, he and all the other “process” indictees are being used as chum to appease the bloodthirsty populace and PROTECT POTUS — who is unredeemable, unsalvageable, untenable, as well, even among those who may agree with some of his policies!

  • Interesting that CNN just happened to be there at the time of the arrest at 6am in the morning. I believe this is planned because they were also after Jerome Corsi. He is suing the Mueller team for various illegal procedures and the discovery process should be interesting if he does not get suicided. Stone will be doing the same thing and the Mueller democrat collusion will take another huge hit.
