Waldorf School of Saratoga issued letter to calm parents’ fears about NXIVM

Karen Abney, a longtime member of NXIVM, and was Kristin Snyder's coach.
With school back in session, the letter below may be of interest to Frank Report readers.
The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs, NY [near Albany] sent this letter to their school community last spring after parents contacted the school’s administration regarding the school’s connection to NXIVM.
Parents were concerned about recruiting being done on campus, as well as the large presence of NXIVM families at the school, especially at the Forest Kindergarten, where a single class included multiple families of High-Rank members.
The letter is vague – as the school was allegedly advised by legal counsel not to identify the NXIVM group by name.

Dear Parents:
Recently, a few parents have made inquiries regarding the school’s affiliations. We always feel it is good to remind parents of our affiliations and the mission which flows from them.
As parents, you know that the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs provides a rich, unique education to our community in preschool through twelfth grade. We do this through offering a developmentally aligned curriculum that educates the whole student. We aim to graduate global citizens with a curiosity about the world.
As a Waldorf school, we are affiliated with the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS). These are the only associations and affiliations the school has.
These affiliations support Waldorf education and our school in offering a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. We integrate the arts in all academic disciplines for children from preschool through twelfth grade to enhance and enrich learning. Waldorf Education aims to inspire life-long learning in all students and to enable them to fully develop their unique capacities.
Finally, in keeping with our mission, the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs does not endorse or promote recruitment into outside organizations; nor is it our practice to require parents to disclose associations or outside involvements they have.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions about the school’s affiliations or any other concerns you may have. As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority.
On behalf of the Collegium and the Board,
Collegium: Abigail Reid, Anne Maguire, Steve Balmer, Katherine Scharff, Julie Niles, Karen Crandall, Sam Godsey, Astrea Ravenstar, Christa Therrien, Richard Fron, Carly Lynn, Michael O’Donnell
Board: Rich Frank, Burt Porter, Kathy Jaques, Anne Maguire, Manon N’Dolo, Donna Behen, Debra Rice, Sarah Day O’Connell, Eric Sabatella, Michael O’Donnell, Scot Esty, Michael Whitney
***
As far as I know, none of the Collegium [advisory board] or the Board itself are NXIVM members.
According to sources, Rosa Laura Junco had to yank her children out of the Waldorf School in 2017 because she needed to ship them out of the area [possibly out of the US] because of something they may have witnessed between the Vanguard and some teenage girls from Chihuahua that she brought to Albany to be mentored by Vanguard.
More recently, Karen Abney – who was a guarantor for the bail bond of Kathy Russell – reportedly chose to distance herself from the Waldorf School to protect the school from potential adverse publicity connected to her NXIVM association.  She was/is listed as a staff member of the school.
Abney, who works in the bookkeeping department of NXIVM – formerly under Russell – came up with $25,000 in cash to bail out Kathy.  Anyone who knows the inner workings of NXIVM knows that a lower level bookkeeper like Abney would not likely be allowed to have that much cash of her own saved up.  She would have been required to spend it on NXIVM courses.
This has inclined some people to suspect the money was part of the money that NXIVM routinely laundered for itself and other organizations and that was often stashed at various locations [$500,000 was found at Nancy Salzman’s house] – or that it was Bronfman money.
Details about a “Forest Kindergarten hosted by Christine Collins and Karen Abney” [both NXIVM members]- seems to have disappeared from the internet.
The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs was founded in 1981.

The school had better start distancing itself.

Back away from what? Waldorf is perfectly compatible with Raniere’s teachings.

Probably not much. Between tuition and paying for Raniere’s “tech,” they were broke.

Lots of Vanguard level word salad in the school’s statement. If Sara Bastard Igtet’s Twitter account was still active, she may have tweeted portions of this statement with approval. A starved and sleep depraved Pimp Mack may have had tears in her eyes, much as she did while listening to the schlubby shaman give his take on method acting.

“Lots of Vanguard level word salad in the school’s statement.”

Waldorf School’s statement was drafted by a bevy of lawyers hoping to head off any lawsuits.

Lawyers don’t head off lawsuits, they create them. Lawsuits are what puts food on their tables.

Is there any connection between this school and the Rudolf Steiner grade school Raniere attended in NY?

Appeti

Raniere very likely went to Green Meadows Waldorf School. It is only a 10-15 minutes drive from Suffern, where he lived during his grade school years. Waldorf School of Sarasota is about a 2 1/2 hours’ drive to the North. No other Waldorf/Steiner schools are within an hour of Suffern. Waldorf School of Sarasota is about a 2 1/2 hours’ drive to the North.

Interestingly, recently there was a sex abuse scandal uncovered at Raniere’s (likely) alma mater, that took place either during his later years there or just after he left for public junior high school. Several teachers were accused of sex crimes back in the 70’s by several students and their parents, but the school did nothing about it until 2014, when one of the accusers wrote about the abuse in her memoir. An investigation concluded that 3 teachers were involved in dozens of criminal behaviours, and that’s when the school finally banned the teachers and wrote a half-assed apology to the victims:

Waldorf School understands the potential legal liability of having followers of the pedophile Raniere working on the faculty and staff of their school.
How many Catholic dioceses across the country have gone bankrupt because of pedophilia?

Over the last 14 years, 19 Catholic dioceses and religious orders in the United States have filed for bankruptcy protection because of the clergy sexual abuse crisis, according to the watchdog group Bishopsaccountability.org.

Following is the list of dioceses and orders, the dates they filed for bankruptcy and the amount they eventually agreed to pay and the number of abuse survivors

Archdiocese of Portland Oregon — filed 7/6/04 — $75 million settlement. At the time the archdiocese filed for bankruptcy, almost 170 people had filed suits alleging abuse.
Diocese of Tucson, Arizona — 9/20/04 — $22.2 million. At least 26 victims

Do you have any problem with NXIVM being “brought down”?

Scott Johnson (@ScottTexJohnson)

Saratoga resident – That was stupid. NXIVM has already been largely taken down. The task now is to ensure every last remnant of it is destroyed, never to be seen again. As Ronaldus Magnus would say, in the dustbin of history.

Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs: NXIVM hotspot?

First; A women contacted me about her experience in The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs. She said that she felt so pressed to take NXIVM classes, both from other parents and from school administrators that she pulled her daughter out and enrolled her in my old alma mater Catholic Central{Old St.Peter’s in my day}. She then asked if I knew anything about it, which I must say I didn’t.

Second; Coincidentally someone who is close to me and that I care deeply about asked me what I thought about the school because her granddaughter was thinking of going to their preschool.

Before NXIVM was done with her, she had lost her husband, who was forced to defend himself against ridiculous NXIVM Black Ops allegations, her piece of mind and the respect of the community.

Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs: NXIVM hotspot?

I am writing this story for two reasons, and yes I know it will piss off a lot of people and some of them will be justified in their anger, but I feel it needs to be said. The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs is a private, non-profit school based on the teachings of Rudolph Steiner and this is its story.
This is their last published annual report HERE (dead link)

First; A women contacted me about her experience in The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs. She said that she felt so pressed to take NXIVM classes, both from other parents and from school administrators that she pulled her daughter out and enrolled her in my old alma mater Catholic Central{Old St.Peter’s in my day}. She then asked if I knew anything about it, which I must say I didn’t.

Second; Coincidentally someone who is close to me and that I care deeply about asked me what I thought about the school because her granddaughter was thinking of going to their preschool.

Well I wasted no time digging around and what I found shocked me. A simple check of the WSSS Board of Directors: Heather Ward, Board President; Matt Beekman, Secretary; Rich Frank, Treasurer; Martin Cohen, Allen DiAlberto, Jeff DeWeese, Richard Fron, David Karp, Ed Mitzen, Ardie Pierce, Katherine Scharff and Jan Zemba, finds two very active and one ex member of NXIVM.
Jeff De Weese along with his wife Jenn are very active members and recruiters for NXIVM. Matt Beekman,President of the board are even more involved and higher ranking. Then we have Ed Mitzen, former member dragged into it by his wife, who found out exactly what NXIVM was really like when he tried to leave. Set up and blackmailed, his story will be told another day. Yes folks these really are vile people. That brings us to his Ex-wife Deedee. Deedee was star struck by NXIVM, perhaps feeling overwhelmed by her husband, she rose through the NXIVM hierarchy, becoming a trainer and confidant of Crazy Nurse Nancy. She was actually with the crazy nurse when she forgot her million dollar laptop at Albany Airport.

In the November 9, 2003 edition of The Sunday Gazette she is quoted with these prophetic words.
Dee Dee Mitzen found the program{NXIVM} so vital that she became a trainer. She and her husband, Ed, who owns Palio Communications in Saratoga Springs, found the courses life-changing, she said. She discounts any talk that labels ESP as a cult, or something that separates people from their families.
“I am the example of none of that being true. My husband and I are happily married, we have three kids and we’re both successful in our jobs,” said Mitzen, who taught seventh and eighth grade, then was a stay-at-home mom.

She touts ESP as a “school of ethics and critical thinking,” and says the program has helped her get the most out of her life. Most importantly, she said, she has stopped giving her children patronizing answers, and started asking questions that help them explore things for themselves.
“Say I’m at the playground with my son and he tells me Joey hit him. Instead of telling him, ‘Joey didn’t mean it,’ Ill ask him, ‘Why do you think Joey hit you,'” Mitzen said.

Before NXIVM was done with her, she had lost her husband, who was forced to defend himself against ridiculous NXIVM Black Ops allegations, her piece of mind and the respect of the community. So why am I bringing this up? DeeDee at least on the Waldorf School website is still listed as a high school teacher, although she is the only staff member not to have biographical information available. As far as I’m concerned, I want no child I care about near this woman. She may regret her involvement now, but she showed an incredible lack of judgment that almost cost her husband everything. So we have NXIVM tainted staff, along with ESPIAN’s in the administration, so what do I do? Go to the open house at the school of course.
Saturday was an open house at the school, so after notifying the local authorities of my intentions and with their tacit blessing, I went over in the last half hour to avoid a scene. So what did a find?
Two intelligent staff members that I found committed and dedicated and I really felt sorry for them in a strange way. Then after the 10 cent tour, I asked the magic question. How much NXIVM influence is in the school? Perhaps they were a naïve, due to their age or perhaps they thought I could shine a light on the predicament, but they answered me, at least I believe truthfully.
Yes they admitted there was a NXIVM problem at the school. They told me there were about eight hard-core NXIVM families that had been repeatedly told they cannot recruit at the school. I asked about the administration and they confirmed there were problems and complaints of favoritism, particularly in the allocating of limited scholarship money. Seems my blog has been hurting enrollment in NXIVM classes. Seems what the Crazy Nurse calls a numbers game just ain’t adding up like it used to.
Even Eshter Chiaponne; a member of the inner circle had to go hat in hand for scholarship money. What happened Esther, crazy nurse cut off your line of credit?
So in all good faith I cannot recommend the program for anyone. Not until at least the school is purged of the vipers that have so soiled its reputation. Dance with the devil and you will always pay.Don’t say you weren’t warned.

After researching Waldorf/Steiner education, I was stunned this school is even open. The Saratoga branch at least. Unbelievable why anyone with half a brain would send their child there. Not surprising it has a large Nxivm fan base. It didn’t take much digging to find one reason after another to recommend this school be thoroughly investigated.
Parents all you need to do is follow their past talk to parents who have removed their children, or who’s children have been asked to leave. I can imagine your Vanguard recommending this place.

You totally missed the point. This school should be hearing from so many people, and be sure they are made aware of Frank Report, by phone, email, and in person, that they throw out every single element of NXIVM they can find. Masses of people contacting them will cause them to change, not a couple of arrests and a letter. They should be so overwhelmed by a deluge of people complaining about NXIVM that they can’t see straight. Use social media for good, we have much more power than you think, but it must be used to be effective.

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
