The volcanic temper, the humongous ego, the guy who threatens anyone who dares stand in his way, has been using the color of law and the power of his office to go after his political enemies for years. He was above the law – he didn’t have to play by the rules. But now, he appears to have gotten his comeuppance..
First a synopsis of the New Yorker story:
New York State’s highest-ranking law-enforcement officer faces accusations of four women who say he was physically violent with them.
Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam were named in The New Yorker story. \
One night, in the bedroom of his Upper West Side apartment, he backed Manning Barish up to the edge of his bed and “slapped me, open handed and with great force, across the face, landing the blow directly onto my ear … . My ear was ringing. I lost my balance and fell backward onto the bed. I sprang up… he pushed me back down. He then used his body weight to hold me down, and he began to choke me. The choking was very hard…. I was being beaten by a man… I was crying and in shock.”
Schneiderman accused her of scratching him. He told her, “You know, hitting an officer of the law is a felony.”
Manning Barish says her ear bothered her for months. She kept hearing odd gurgling sounds. Once, blood trickled out, reaching her collarbone.
Manning Barish sought medical help and the doctor confirmed to the New Yorker that she removed “dried bloody crust” from Manning Barish’s ear.
Manning Barish said Schneiderman often slapped her across the face. He “controlled what I ate.” Manning Barish is five feet seven. She lost thirty pounds, falling to 103. She became emaciated; her hair started to fall out. Nevertheless, he squeezed her legs and called them “chubby.”
Manning Barish says Schneiderman would drink two bottles of wine then bring Scotch to the bedroom. He took prescription tranquilizers.
Sometimes in bed, he would be “shaking me and grabbing my face” demanding she repeat “I’m a little whore.” He told her, “If you ever left me, I’d kill you.” “’I am the law’” Manning Barish says Schneiderman told her.
In 2016, he took a female lawyer to a house. They started making out. He told the woman, “Yeah, you act a certain way and look a certain way, but I know that at heart you are a dirty little slut. You want to be my whore.” He became sexually aggressive. He slapped her across the face so hard the blow left a red handprint. She screamed, and started to sob. She told him she wanted to leave.
“You’d really be surprised,” he told her. “A lot of women like it. They don’t always think they like it, but then they do, and they ask for more.”
She demanded to be taken home. They got in his car. It became apparent how intoxicated he was. He drove, weaving along back roads. She was terrified he’d kill her and maybe another driver.
Tanya Selvaratnam met Schneiderman in 2016 and began dating. Schneiderman began physically abusing her in bed.
Selvaratnam says, “It wasn’t consensual. This wasn’t sexual playacting. This was abusive, demeaning, threatening behavior.”
Schneiderman was “obsessed with having a threesome, and said it was my job to find a woman,” she says. “He said he’d have nothing to look forward to if I didn’t, and would hit me until I agreed…. Sometimes, he’d tell me to call him Master, and he’d slap me until I did.” Selvaratnam, born in Sri Lanka, has dark skin. “He started calling me his ‘brown slave’ and demanding that I repeat that I was ‘his property,’” she said.
Schneiderman slapped her across the face, back and forth, with open hand, spat at her and choked her. She often asked him to stop hurting her, and tried to push him away.
“He had said he would have to kill me if we broke up, on multiple occasions. He also told me he could have me followed and could tap my phone,” she said.
Selvaratnam ended the relationship. She suffered from ringing in her ears, and vertigo. After the breakup, she sought medical help from an ear, nose, and throat specialist.
There were other victims. Another former girlfriend, he’d spit on and slap her hard across the ear and face. He choked and spat at her. Schneiderman pushed her to set up a threesome, and belittled her appearance, saying she had fat legs and needed Botox.
The former girlfriend wrote down an account of the abuse, locked the document in a safe-deposit box, and gave keys to two friends in case anything happened to her.

There is more to this story not yet reported. More women will likely come forward. The man is a bully. He also used his political and legal authority to go after political enemies and cover for those who were his allies.
Kristy Mazurek was a victim of the ruthless former State Assemblyman Dennis “Grab and Go” Gabryszak. Kristy and five other women – also victims – went to Schneiderman to ask to investigate. Instead, the attorney general covered it up.
“I don’t think it is a coincidence that I and other women who dealt with sexual harassment never got our day in court because Eric Schneiderman protected others like him,” Mazurek said.
In the case of Albany cult leader Keith Raniere, despite multiple complaints by numerous women over the course of years – women who claimed they were abused by Raniere and his sex slaver cult of NXIVM – Schneiderman seems to have, once again, ignored or covered up crimes of the notorious brander and starver of women. One can see why: He liked to beat and starve women himself. Maybe he saw Raniere as a potential partner-in-crime.
Yet Schneiderman was at the forefront of the #metoo movement. Isn’t it always the most sanctimonious of assholes who are the greatest closet offenders?
There are more incidents to relate. How we went after political enemies like Rob Ortt and George Maziarz.
Schneiderman indicted Ortt – but the case was dismissed post indictment.
He also indicted Maziarz, who had participated in a political coup against him when Schneiderman was a state senator in 2009. At that time, he threatened to destroy Maziarz but was not able to do it politically. So, when he became attorney general, he used the color of law to indict Maziarz on a raft of bogus felony charges. Maziarz wound up with a misdemeanor election violation and $1,000 fine. But his life and career were nearly destroyed.
Then there is Steve Pigeon who helped engineer the State Senate coup in 2009 when Schneiderman got overthrown as Deputy Speaker of the Senate. Although Schneiderman immediately vowed vengeance, there was nothing he could do until be became Attorney General. Then, using the color of law, he went after Pigeon and indicted him on bogus charges that can never be proven.
But that did not stop him from raiding Pigeon’s house and destroying his reputation and business.
At the time of the senate coup, Schneiderman was seen by three witnesses – all of whom told Artvoice that he – then a state senator – was screaming and threatening Pigeon at the Marriott Hotel in Albany.
He probably would have slapped Pigeon except Pigeon, being a man, might have hit him back.

On MSNBC today, a reporter (who had previously worked in Albany) commented on this exact point. He said Albany was a cesspool of male chauvinist pigs. I was disappointed when he didn’t mention Rainiere.

This is the guy who defended the ridiculous ban on Mixed Martial Arts competitions from New York state, at the time the only state to do so, which was eventually reversed with legislation after massive lawsuits. One of the reasons for this ban on MMA was simple: a corrupt union fight going on behind the scenes targeting the owner of one of the casino franchises who also sponsored MMA competitions. They had the nerve to argue that MMA bouts in places like MSG would “have a negative effect on the economics of New York state and local municipalities.” Schneiderman then turned around and presented a blatantly unconstitutional argument against MMA, that it did not fall under the First Amendment because it had no message being conveyed, as if that ever stopped any other bizarre public performance in New York state.
But wait, what’s this: “Unite Here has pumped tens of thousands of dollars into Schneiderman’s war chest. It donated $55,000 to his 2010 attorney general race, making it his largest labor contributor, according to the National Institute on Money in State Politics. The union pumped another $10,000 into Schneiderman’s campaign in July 2012 despite his not being up for reelection until 2014.
Neither the union nor Schneiderman’s office returned multiple requests for comment.
The attorney general’s ties to Unite Here run beyond campaign donations. His former Chief of Staff Neal Kwatra served as an activist for the group as well as the state’s Hotel Trades Council for many years before joining Schneiderman’s office. Kwatra left his post in February to pursue a career as a political consultant, though he pledged to “continue to provide strategic advice for Mr. Schneiderman,” according to the New York Times.”
Schneiderman is SCUM, and everything else he was involved in needs to come out now as well. I hope his victims are lining up right now to come forward and expose this monster down to the last detail. Then he needs to be criminally charged for assault.

It almost sounds like Schneiderman took a few courses from Raniere. Threatening women; forcing them to become extremely thin; demanding threesomes; having multiple sexual partners; forcing them to call his “Master”; etc., I think all he missed was the branding.
If you believe people like Dr. Hare, sociopaths allegedly make up 2%-5% of the general population. You have to understand, many sociopaths – or people who have sociopathic characteristics – hold top positions in businesses, law, politics, sports, entertainment, etc.

Raniere, the Bronfmans and the Salzmans were never called to account for their actions, for a variety of reasons. They knew they didn’t have to be concerned about human experimentation, extortion, and blackmail, the involvement of normal sane non-cult members from the community like Frank, like even Gillibrand’s father who bolted no matter what you think of her, and the host of other criminal actions. That emboldened them, to put it mildly. Psychologically, it enabled them to think they had much much more power than they really did. One can only imagine the private conversations they must have had, reveling in the imaginary power that they thought they had. They must have believed that they were untouchable, because for a time, they were.
And as you so correctly comment, the behaviour escalated, as it is does with pornography addiction, as it does with drug abuse, with alcohol, with gambling, with greed for money and power, and as it does with deviance. What worked ten years ago no longer gets the job done, ‘kicks just keep getting harder to find’ as the song goes. The synaptic nerve receptors require more and more juice, and greater acts of deviancy in order to fire those receptors. So the actions or substance or power or kink or conquest needs to ramp up too, until the person is what…Dahmer level? What type of medical experiment would be needed down the line to satisfy Clare and Raniere, and the doctors they enlisted to carry out their sick fetishes? What level of obedience would be required from slaves to satisfy the Salzman’s need to control other human beings? Would keeping a woman locked in a room for 18 months been enough punishment down the road, or would physical torture be needed, how about murder? How thin would Raniere’s women need to be–and how young–before they were simply ten year olds? Or was that already happening?
Had the people entrusted by the public and given taxpayers funds to execute their duties not been negligent monstrous abusers themselves, things would not have reached the point that they did in 2017. Had Schneiderman, who was elected AG in 2010, done his damn job, no one would have been branded and blackmailed and locked in a room for a year and a half.
I hope that Schneiderman gets sued by his own victims, and by those whom he failed to protect, and I hope it occupies the rest of his natural life. I can’t talk for other countries but France has a very different approach on political group financing. Most of the day to day money is from annual membership and campaign expenses are reimbursed by the state based on the elections results. This is to prevent 2 things; obviously the first one being corruption and the second one allow small groups to have a voice no matter what…
One more thing, here it’s pretty rare to see someone with a law backgroud going to politics (excepts a few lawyers, but no state attorney or judge to my knowledge). It goes back to the french revolution and “the separation of powers”.
Not saying the system’s perfect but it was made to avoid corruption and works pretty good on that end. If you allow private citizens or companies to finance politics, you basically just make corruption the norm…

Yes, in last year of high school, there is an introduction to Philosophy, most rebel teenagers think it’s useless but it is there to help them think by themselves and to question life as they are entering adulthood (you legally become an adult at 18 here).
Haha, to be honest, foreigners do often have a romantic view of France that tend to only focus on the positives (food, wine, litterature, fashion,…).

I’m not saying France or any other country should be a model for anything. In a perfect world, we as people, would just look at the world we live in and acknowledge that each system has flaws. I am quite conscient about what should be changed in my country and that other countries do better on those topics.
My personal opinion on political party funding stands. If you let individuals, companies or lobbys finance them, you make corruption legal. By definition, a lobby doesn’t have any interest in common good, just it’s own.
