“Smallville” actress Allison Mack pleaded “Not guilty” to sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit forced labor charges as part of an alleged sex cult in a federal court in Brooklyn Friday.
Mack, 35, appeared before a judge “looking unkempt and gaunt.”
She was wearing jeans, a denim shirt and holding tissues, CBS 6 Albany reported.
The judge refused a request by her lawyers to release her without bail.
A bail hearing will be held Monday.

Meanwhile, the President and Prefect of the ESP operation, Nancy Salzman – who Clare supposedly despises and vice versa – is nowhere to be found. The only question now is whether Nancy “flips” on Clare before Clare “flips” on Nancy.

With Svengali-like leader Keith Raniere and his accused top slave-recruiter, former “Smallville” actress Allison Mack, both jailed on federal sex-trafficking charges, the 200-member cult is now headed by Bronfman — who rules with an iron hand, Parlato said.
“She’s the enforcer — the brutal one,” he said. “Clare’s running the [operation] now, and she’s the most ruthless of them.
“I’m issuing an absolute warning now,” he added. “Clare Bronfman is a true fanatic, and if there’s a Jim Jones situation, everyone will commit suicide but her.”

And so Mack and a few other of Raniere’s slaves and recruiters moved about six months ago into what Parlato called a “slave pod” apartment in Brooklyn Heights

Also in the pod was “Dynasty” actress Catherine Oxenberg’s daughter, India, who continues to live there while working at an East Village vegan restaurant.
India was present in the “pod” — and was “scared awake” — when the feds busted in early Friday to arrest Mack, Parlato said.
“She’s a true victim,” said Parlato, who speaks several times a day to India’s worried mother.
“India was groomed by this cult for a long time,” he said.
One of the pod’s recruiting events was held Christmas week at an edgy, graffiti-covered event venue in East Williamsburg.
“Their job was to look for women,” Parlato said, describing Raniere’s ideal recruit as “slender, young, nubile, long-haired.”
“He liked them gullible but edgy,” Parlato said of Raniere, whose slaves called him “Vanguard.”

I was a fan of Smallville for many years and I know it used to drive me nuts when the writers/producers would say that Lana was such a hated character because KK was so beautiful and we were all jealous. I know that as a viewer I disliked Lana for many reasons–being two-faced, having zero purpose besides being the love interest, entire plots were created to keep her relevant and then subsequently dropped when the next season started–that’s why I disliked the character. KK being pretty had nothing to do with it and it was insulting to be told that was the only possible reason she was hated, like the character was a perfect creation.
I am sure that was difficult for KK to play a character that was not very popular but that sometimes happens on television shows. A character the writers think will be beloved is loathed and their egos can’t handle that their creation is bombing with the viewers. I hope KK has developed enough as an actress to not let this type of criticism get to her and to play the role to the best of her ability.
I also hope this weekend in jail, away from the slaves and any other weird influence, will help Allison mack realize just how much trouble she is in and if she wants to save her neck and have any type of life, she needs to start spilling her guts to the prosecutors.

I while back, for a few days, this site had a slightly different layout; in addition to ‘Recent Posts’, ‘Archives’ and ‘Contact’ on the right hand side of the home page, there was also a ‘Recent Comments’ feature.
Would it be possible to reinstate that feature? There’s been dozens of interesting comments overnight on all of yesterdays articles. I go through each article’s comment section and look for the timestamp so I don’t miss anything, but it would be so beneficial to look up all comments chronologically in addition to reading them post by post.

The issue I’m having is that when I reply to comments on my phone, the comments place randomly, either top of all comments, or in the middle, and rarely in reply to the comment I replied to.
This happened to me multiple times as well. It seems like if it takes a while to type the comment, the page “times out” and loses who you were responding to and so it thinks you’re just making a general comment and so it posts it to the top.

I would love to know what, if any, influence KR had in the Smallville episode Power in Season 8. It was aired in January 2009. Mack’s interviews at the time echoed a lot of the cult speak. She directed the episode. At the time, she was very influential with the show because Chloe was so popular. Was she given any story control? Does anybody have any insight around this?
Mack directed. Both Mack and Kreuk heavily influenced the plot based on KR teachings at the time. A woman being tortured to gain her power showed the kernel of what was to come.

Anyone who’s ever been in a TV writers’ room knows the dialog is written by a group, then rewritten with notes from the studio and the network, and filtered thru the head writer/showrunner….but not written by the actors.
Even the credited writer of the script may not see much of what he/she originally wrote surviving.
If “Power” has similarities to NXIVM babble, it could be due to coincidence, to fans looking for a conspiracy, or writers using buzzwords from any and all empowerment movements.

That wasn’t the question. Actors don’t make their own dialog. However Mack was the director and she had a lot of (forgive the phrase) power back then. Kreuk negotiated her return to the show (no sex with producers involved). The show was trying to keep them both happy because they were ratings draw. Mack was going to leave and she was very popular. Did she have any say in rewrites. What happened in Power and Requiem wasn’t organic to the plot. My question to this day is how much influence did this cult have because those episodes echoed a lot of the cult speak.

People bring up that Albany Times Union series in 2012 but was it widely distributed among cult members, especially to those in other cities back then? I read somewhere that Nicki Clyne was the one who referred Grace Park. Not sure if it’s true or not, but it would kind of make sense as they were both working together on Battlestar Galactica back then. Nicki got in way earlier and way deeper fast. From all I can tell so far, Grace never went anywhere near as deep into this cult.
As for that Albany Times Union series, since the authorities obviously dropped the ball to go after KR and NXIVM for those allegations, it was easy for the cult to just dismiss it as gossip and slander.
But it seems Kristen Kreuk took it serious enough to let her connection with NXIVM go cold. For good reasons she didn’t officially quit and didn’t make a fuzz about leaving. Just have a look at those who left openly and denouncing NXIVM and what a hit they took to get an understanding why. Why do people keep using the term “recruited”?
