Another Inmate: ‘What Life Is Like For Keith Raniere [formerly Vanguard]’

Not a real photo of Keith Raniere but his soon-to-be future reality.. Prison

By a Former Inmate:

It is pretty much him, his ‘amazing mind’ and his tiny little cell.

Keith Raniere is most likely in protective custody. Sex offenders are the most hated in jails and prisons. That means he will be with other sex offenders. His hard time is now.

Confusion. No outside recreation. No female human touch.  He may be in a cell 23-and-1.

23-and-1 means 23 hours inside his cell with one hour out. Only enough time to make his phone calls and shower.

Inside the 6′ by 10′ cell, day in and day out. If, by chance, he shares a cell with another inmate, which is possible, that will be the closest person to him. Toilets are only feet away from his head.

Sex offenders are main targets for brutality. There is a tier level within jail. At the top are child rapist murderers and at the bottom child rapists and child molesters. Other inmates detest them so much they are willing to kill.

Guards are outnumbered by inmates; their focus will be on him to make sure no harm will come. It is the guards’ duty to keep the inmates protected no matter what the crimes are.

The smells in jail will consume his nostrils. The food, which is mainly carbs and questionable meat, will pack on the pounds quick. He will look at his face in a non-glass, tin-like shaving mirror. Wearing the same jail house ‘garm’ day in and day out. Smelly feet, smelly showers and smelly ‘cellies’ [cellmates] is what Keith Raniere is experiencing.

Along with the flimsy sleeping mat issued him, he will be given one sheet, one small towel, one washcloth and state soap, toothpaste and a tiny toothbrush, a small black comb, a cup and shoes to be used for the better creature comforts.

For someone who had total control, he has no control anymore. His ‘ass’ belongs to the government. When he is told go to his cell, he has to go to his cell. When he is told to change his uniform, he must do so.  Everyone gets the same stinky uniform.

He was once a slave master. He is now learning to be a slave.

RaniereCloseUp1
The above is not a real picture but rather one I photo-shopped last year to represent Keith Raniere as a wax figure in a wax museum, long after he is sent to prison; a criminal who people, going to a future ‘Chamber of Horrors,’ will enjoy seeing – because it is remote to them. Like a Jack, the Ripper, Blue Beard or Charlie Manson, a historical figure of immense evil. For those who have been tormented by him – his victims – there is nothing funny about Keith Raniere. He is perhaps the most ruthless person I have ever known – Frank Parlato.

A society that is cruel to the accused is responsible for the karmic debt against every accused soul that is abused, many of which are innocent, not that it should matter.

I think it’s highly unlikely that Raniere is in “protective custody” because the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) really doesn’t offer that status in the same way that a regular federal prison might do so. That’s because the vast majority of inmates at MDC are there on “pre-trial” status (as is Raniere), which means that they haven’t been found guilty of anything yet – or “pre-sentence” status, which means they’ve been found guilty or pled guilty and are just waiting to be sentenced.

Certain high-level prisoners like Whitey Bulger and some other Mafiosi were housed in a separate area while they were at MDC. But that had more to do with the potential for those guys getting busted out by members of their gangs than it did with the prison trying to offer them some sort of special protection from other inmates. (I really don’t think that the MDC guards are all that worried about Keith getting busted out by Clare Bronfman, Allison Mack, Lauren Salzman, etc).

Martin Shkreli – the guy who hiked the price of the drug Daraprim from $13.50 per pill to $750 per pill – was recently housed at MDC for several months while he was awaiting sentencing. And he was in General Population the whole time he was there.

Raniere’s “best chances” of being moved out of General Population are (1) getting thrown into the Special Housing Unit (SHU) for fighting or otherwise violating prison rules; (2) getting thrown into the Suicide Watch Ward – which would require him to convince several MDC personnel that he’s suicidal; or (3) getting assigned to the Psychiatric Unit that houses those inmates who have already been diagnosed with some sort of mental illness. Unfortunately for Raniere, all three of those areas are much worse than being in General Population.

So, it looks to me like Raniere is just going to have to suck it up (no pun intended) – and get through the next 18-24 months in the General Population at MDC. And for a guy like him, that’s not going to be easy.

I have always wanted to know. How does somebody like Frank allow himself to be hired? Is the access and money really that alluring? If Keith really talks like he does in his YouTube videos, I don’t understand how anyone who’s spent 6 minutes on a street could be duped by this guy. He’s not eloquent, reasoned, or open to debate (from all accounts). You can’t teach savvy.

Keith was charismatic. Also warm, and always smiling, a pleasure to be around. Most people were not privy to the illegal or creepy stuff or part of his inner circle.

“Charisma disguises psychopaths: Although you don’t have to be a psychopath to be charismatic, many psychopaths are charming, and the main reason for this is that their charm hides their antisocial tendencies, so they manage to get away with it.”

This is the reason why people are fooled by sociopaths. It is harder to accept that they were manipulated, cheated, mistreated, etc., by them in whatever way because they were so charming here, or they were so helpful there, etc. It takes some time to see through what Cleckley called the “Mask of Sanity” because of that veneer of charm that allows them to initially infiltrate people’s lives. They also know how to charm themselves back after initially committing egregious actions as well. Cognitive dissonance takes some time to filter through.

Because I found him to be a repulsive, little troll from the get-go. I presumed he was lying about his IQ test and various accomplishments as part of a marketing scam.

He was leering and creepy and wouldn’t even try to talk to me himself. He just kept sending his minions to tell me to go talk to him.

Consistently grateful I refused. (shudder)

Well, maybe you would had sprinkled your tea on his face in an explosive giggle like “What the hell ! You’re so full of s**t !”…
I don’t know you/who you are but I’m glad that you didn’t engage any conversation with that ghoul !..

He was charismatic, and he is charming. Keith is a true psychopath. The disguise is the ‘nice person, Clark Kent, calm demeanor’. He was a very nice person.

That is the scary part. Like John Wayne Gacy was a pleasant clown. Or Dahmer, how did he lure all those men to his house? By being charming. And that is the utterly sick, dangerous, and deadly personality traits of a psychopath.

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
