Raniere denied bail; next hearing April 27

Keith Raniere has been denied bail.  The hearing was about 5 minutes in length and the judge denied Raniere bail. He will sit in Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) until trial. More details to follow.

The next hearing date is on April 27th. His detention in the meantime is based on the charges in the Complaint and not on the as-yet-unsealed indictment — which could be unsealed anytime now.

Raniere was dressed in a brown prison bodysuit garb.

No Nxivm supporters were in the courtroom. He appeared to look at Toni Natalie and Catherine Oxenberg twice. His chains were taken off outside the door and he appeared before Judge Tiscione in handcuffs only.

At the earliest, Raniere can anticipate his trial to begin one year from today. But subsequent charges – which are fully expected in this case – will likely push that back by another 6-12 months.

  • I think everything were reading here is based on the things we learned at Nxivm in the module ” The Fall”

  • Don’t you know AliMack is out there somewhere losing her goddamned mind. No precious Vanguard any time soon.
I can only imagine what nonsense she must be concocting to cover for this with the slaves… if she can get herself together at all.

    • She could be taking a page from the Clare and Sara Bronfman playbook and trying to file criminal complaints against Jane Doe 2 for the proprietary information she stole from a private dropbox account. I mean, that is a theft, right? She had no prior authorization to have that collateral in her possession. And the dropbox servers are in a different state. Call the FBI! Just not the ones in Brooklyn. Buffalo or Albany is better.

  • That is wonderful, and a relief. But I assume his new attorneys can make another motion for bail between now and the trial? Not sure how all that works on the criminal side.

    • IMO, they won’t do that. It would really piss a judge off to waste their time on a hearing for a decision that was already made. I could be mistaken, though.

A hearing on a motion is likely going to further in the calendar than the preliminary hearing, anyhow. Courts are backed up.

      • He literally already fled the country once. There is NO WAY he’s getting bail. It will NOT happen.

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
