NXIVM Statement – working with authorities to demonstrate Raniere’s innocence/ DOJ Press Release: Raniere – sex trafficker

In response to the allegations against our founder, Keith Raniere, we are currently working with the authorities to demonstrate his innocence and true character. We strongly believe the justice system will prevail in bringing the truth to light. We are saddened by the reports perpetuated by the media and their apparent disregard for “innocent until proven guilty,” yet we will continue to honor the same principles on which our company was founded. It is during the times of greatest adversity that integrity, humanity and compassion are hardest, and needed most.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, March 26, 2018

The Founder of “Nxivm,” a Purported Self-Help Organization Based in Albany, N.Y., Arrested for Sex Trafficking and Forced Labor Conspiracy

Defendant Founded a Secret Society in Which Women Were Branded with Defendant’s Initials, Served as His Slaves and Coerced Others into Performing Sex Acts

A complaint was unsealed today in federal court in Brooklyn charging Keith Raniere, also known as “The Vanguard,” with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and forced labor conspiracy.  Raniere was deported by Mexican authorities after he was found Sunday outside Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in a luxury villa.  Raniere’s initial appearance is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the federal courthouse in Fort Worth, Texas.

Richard P. Donoghue, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and William F. Sweeney, Jr., Assistant Director-in-Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI), announced the charges.

“As alleged in the complaint, Keith Raniere created a secret society of women whom he had sex with and branded with his initials, coercing them with the threat of releasing their highly personal information and taking their assets,” stated United States Attorney Donoghue.  “This Office and our law enforcement partners are committed to the prosecution of those who break the law by preying upon and violating members of our community.”  Mr. Donoghue expressed his grateful appreciation to the FBI for leading the investigation, and thanked the New York State Police, the FBI Albany Field Office, the FBI’s Mexican Legat, the Mexican Federal Police, the New York State Office of the Attorney General, the New York State Department of Health and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York for their assistance.

“As alleged, Keith Raniere displayed a disgusting abuse of power in his efforts to denigrate and manipulate women he considered his sex slaves,” FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge Sweeney stated.  “He allegedly participated in horrifying acts of branding and burning them, with the cooperation of other women operating within this unorthodox pyramid scheme. These serious crimes against humanity are not only shocking, but disconcerting to say the least, and we are putting an end to this torture today.”

Defendant’s Founding of Nxivm

According to the complaint, during the past 20 years, Raniere established a series of purported self-help workshops called “Executive Success Programs” (“ESP”) within his umbrella organization “Nxivm” (pronounced NEX-i-um).  Nxivm is based in Albany, New York and has operated centers in the United States, Mexico, Canada and South America.  Nxivm maintains features of a pyramid scheme, as its courses cost thousands of dollars each and participants (“Nxians”) are encouraged to pay for additional classes, and to recruit others to take classes, in order to rise within the ranks of Nxivm.  A number of Nxians were residents of the Eastern District of New York when they were recruited, and Nxivm has held promotional recruiting events in Brooklyn.  Since Nxivm’s creation, Raniere has maintained poly-amorous relations with its members.

According to the complaint, in 2015, Raniere created a secret society within Nxivm called “DOS,” which loosely translated to “Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions,” or “The Vow.”  DOS operated with levels of women “slaves” headed by “masters.”  Slaves were expected to recruit slaves of their own (thus becoming masters themselves), who in turn owed service not only to their own masters but also to masters above them in the DOS pyramid.  Raniere stood alone at the top of the pyramid.  Other than the Raniere, all members of DOS were women.

Most DOS slaves were recruited from within Nxivm’s ranks.  When new DOS slaves were recruited, they were explicitly told that the organization was women-only, and that the organization would empower them and eradicate weaknesses that the Nxivm curriculum taught were common in women.  Raniere’s status at the top of the structure was concealed from new recruits.

As a pre-condition to joining DOS, women were required to provide “collateral,” which included highly damaging information about friends and family members, nude photographs and/or rights to the recruit’s assets.  DOS slaves feared that their collateral could be released for any number of reasons, including telling anyone about DOS’s existence or leaving DOS.  Many DOS slaves were branded on their pelvic areas using a cauterizing pen with a symbol which, unbeknownst to them, incorporated Raniere’s initials.  During the branding ceremonies, slaves were required to be fully naked, and a master would order one slave to film the branding while the others restrained the slave being branded.

As detailed in the complaint, some DOS masters gave their slaves, including Jane Does 1 and 2 as described in the complaint, work which directly or implicitly required the slaves to have sex with Raniere.  These DOS masters received financial benefits from Raniere.  According to the complaint, both Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 believed that if they did not have sex with the defendant, their collateral could be released.

The charges in the complaint are merely allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

If convicted of the crimes charged, Raniere faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment, and up to life imprisonment.

The government’s case is being handled by the Office’s Organized Crime and Gangs Section.  Assistant United States Attorneys Moira Kim Penza and Tanya Hajjar are in charge of the prosecution.

The Defendant:

KEITH RANIERE (also known as “The Vanguard”)
Age:  57
Residence: Waterford, New York

“There have also been emergency group meetings with NXIVM, and many of Raniere’s supporters have floated a theory that the unfolding prosecution was set up by Raniere as a way to test their loyalty, according to a person briefed on one of those meetings.”

Ugh, that’s truly depressing. These people are gone, lost in a dream-world, completely disconnected from reality. For what and who? Some sleazy snake-oil-selling con-artist.

Any new where Clare Bear is or if she is being sought by the FEDS for questioning? She seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Last we heard she was in Mexico with KR walking the streets on her cell phone.

Keith made a huge mistake leaving Upstate NY in favor of Mexico – that was his downfall, the paranoia that drove him across the border – it’s kind of obvious that LE and local and state Justice system were paid or otherwise convinced to do nothing about what this demon and his acolytes were up to. in NY. Once he fled to Mexico, it was open season for unrelated LE to get involved and make the necessary arrest

The irony is that his fleeing to Mexico may be the downfall of the Mexico operation that I believe they thought they would be able to rely on post Albany collapse.
It has hit the media in a massive way down there because he was arrested there.

Mexican authorities could not arrest him without US LE. New York has been building a case against him for months. It takes time for LE to get enough info together for an airtight case.
I think Keith fled the country because he was aware of what was coming his way and he hoped to flee and avoid capture.
Didnt work out as he planned.

Can anyone comment…Can we be reasonably sure at this point that KR will not wriggle out of the net this time? I agree with the poster who pointed out that the massive dollars and man hours spent by the federal authorities in catching him signals they have a solid case. I just get so tired of him escaping consequences at every turn. He has carried out his disgusting agendas with impunity, for decades. The thought of him disappearing back into Mexico or Fiji to exploit more women and young girls makes me sick. I read here that the age of consent in Mexico is 12 in some areas. I really want to see this monster locked up.

I am of the opinion that as long as proper procedure was followed collecting the evidence that led up to Raniere’s arrest, he is hung.
As I have mentioned before, he is convicted by his own words. They have all of his e-mails from his personal account directing the activities with the slaves, and they have further evidence that it wasn’t necessary to disclose yet in order to get the arrest warrant.
Plus with whatever evidence of even more crimes which they have obtained from search & seizure… Again, as long as all the correct procedure has been followed…
I just don’t see how he can get away this time.

I find Raniere’s statement interesting, he has nothing to do with DOS. I find NXIVMS statement interesting that they are standing behind Raniere. These people are so dumb they do not realize when Raniere is convicted they have just admitted to following and teaching his curriculum. WOW. Who will sign up to take classes designed by a sociopath? Down you go NXIVM!!!!!!

Unfortunately, Scientology is a great example of just how many people will sign up to take classes designed by a sociopath.
I believe Keith Raniere aspired to be L. Ron Hubbard Jr.
I haven’t read Dianetics, but others have told me a lot of the material is copied straight from there.
One of the classics is how everything that happens to you is your own fault so you can only be a victim of yourself, and on about personal responsibility.
Bet they all think Keith Raniere is a victim now.
That is the problem, though, there is a grain of truth in much of what is disseminated. That is what tends to make it believeable. We do need to take responsibility for our choices and actions. For him, though, I think it only applies when it is convenient.

Just a couple of comments on some facts that may have gone unnoticed. First, it was the Mexican Policia that arrested Raniere, not the FBI. Second, Mexico then deported Raniere, thereby making it unnecessary for the U.S. to extradite him from there. Third, Raniere waived his right to contest his extradition from Texas to New York, most likely because he was not having a good time wherever they were holding him. Fifth, it may take several weeks before Raniere reaches Brooklyn, meaning that the Feds are giving him the “full travel treatment” as only they can. And last, those “additional charges” the Feds mentioned in their complaint quite likely include more charges against Raniere as well as new charges against other people.

https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Raniere-Detention-Memo.pdf

I don’t believe I have seen this posted or it’s possible that I missed it- It’s the letter requesting denial of bail from the US Attorney’s Office and it states multiple times that he’s a con artist and master manipulator.

As someone who has done political and professional organization PR on a national level it is OBVIOUS that statements like the above put out by NXIVM TO NXIVM adherents, particularly in light of the warrant and bail docs from the Eastern District, are being written not by hired attorneys or PR pros, but addled cult followers that just make the delusion all the more obvious.

I can’t imagine any hired attorney letting this fly. Has there been an “official” statement to the press by hired counsel that I’ve missed?

I know bullshit statements like this have worked in the past backed by Bronfman money, but that was BEFORE this broke out of Albany’s police/investigative cliques. Ain’t no Bronfman money gonna save them now.

Secondly, in the 23 pg. arrest warrant it states that not all charges are stated because of continuing investigation. In other words, other people are on the verge of being charged and more detail would give them a possible heads up.

Thirdly, in the warrant it states that Raniere not only was dumb enough to use a traceable yahoo account for years, but that he forwarded self incriminating emails from an untraceable/masked account TO his yahoo account. DOH!! In the email evidence there are numerous communications with “co-conspirators” meaning that Vanstupid not only incriminated himself, but his emails will be the basis for the takedown of the co-conspirators.

I know that when a monster has finally been caught it is quite difficult for the victims who have been directly damaged, or watched the perpetrator escape consequences, to believe that justice is finally happening and the monster won’t find a way to squirm out. It’s hard to believe that you can actually, finally, begin the process of remembering how to feel safe again which has to happen before you can even think about healing from such pervasive trauma.

There is so little that I can do it feels, to be supportive and authentically helpful, and I want to be more than a bystander.

I hope that my words as an outsider who has experience reading legalese and followed the fall of more than one sociopathic leader or abuser might bring a little reassurance that Rainere is in custody, he’s not going to make bail, and the MINIMUM mandatory sentence for just ONE sex trafficking charge is FIFTEEN years.

In the Denial of Bail Request above, it states how deeply self-incriminating Rainere’s emails are in regards to that charge *and all the other charges that are not public yet !!!!!*, and that Rainere is very likely looking at life in prison.

Life. In. Prison.

I can’t wait to see THAT reality begin to settle in on all the folks he’s damaged and scammed. It will be joyous indeed!

With Much Love & Prayers for healing,

Kybele

ionwhitepoetry, please read the post from “only if he skates on a technicality” (above) and it will reassure you. Had KR left it at receiving unlimited adoration, donations, financing, housing and “consensual” sex, he might have skated. But when he started collecting “collateral” (i.e., blackmail), and when he approved mutilation (branding), I think he sealed his fate. Email is forever, and apparently his own glib words will seal his fate. I have been following this for over 20 years and feel we finally have reason to hope. I feel confidant that THIS IS IT. The obvious legal strategy, already the PR strategy, is

1. It was all consensual

2. It’s all Allison’s and/or Lauren’s fault.

There is probably lots of electronic communication evidence that Raniere was giving Allison and/or Lauren orders. But if his control over them is sufficient to get them to testify in a way that muddles the evidence, and take responsibility themselves, he might skate.

They have been conditioned for years to sacrifice anything for The Mission…..

What I can’t understand is how the fuck did no one check his college transcript GPA? I’ve followed this group for a long time and the first time I saw his 2.26 GPA actually given was in the federal government paperwork associated with his arrest.

Do you think people would’ve thought this guy was one of the greatest problem solvers on the planet with such a poor GPA? How many people would have joined if they knew this? My guess is A LOT less than how many did. A 2.26 GPA is barely above average.

I graduated H.S. with a 3.96 GPA and magna cum laude from college with the same GPA at an engineering school and I would never make the claim that I’m a genius. I often look back on those times and wonder how I even did it.

so I will reply to my own.
Bearing in mind, I am not a fan of this guy and who knows what his actual IQ is or is not…
Equating IQ and GPA is a faulty premise. People do well in school who do not necessarily have an IQ over 160, and people who have an IQ over 160 do not necessarily do well in school.
It isn’t legal to obtain someone else’s transcript without their authorisation. Presumably IQ test results would be the same.
When I heard all that, I believed it was probably exaggerated for sales purposes.
Then again, I didn’t necessarily equate a high IQ or lots of degrees with any sort of basic goodness, either, which seems to be what the NXIVM PR materials are attempting to imply.

Darth VanDouche - Chicken Shit
Darth VanDouche - Chicken Shit

I didn’t mention IQ. I said genius. People typically aren’t geniuses in everything. They are only geniuses in one or a few subjects. But they are usually smart in many others. They usually don’t score poorly or average across all subjects. The particular example that I’ve seen in which people relate a lack of success in school as not being indicative for high intelligence is Albert Einstein. These are exceptional cases. But this wasn’t even really the case for Albert Einstein. He didn’t do well in courses he had no care for, i.e., he was unmotivated. However, he excelled in mathematics and obviously physics.

VanDouche graduated with three degrees in math, physics, and biology. When people go to college, they usually pick courses in subjects they are interested and pretty good in. People do what they’re good at. VanDouche claimed to teach himself college level mathematics while he was in high school, not in a matter of years or months, but in less than a week. He also claimed to be a scientist. How many people would have believed he was one of the top three problem solvers in the world and a genius had they known for all three degrees he received a 2.26 GPA? My guess is zero, zilch, nada.

...
...

My understanding is that his claim to genius is based on his IQ. Technically anyone with an IQ over 160 is a genius.

That Clare Bronfman will be arrested is a reasonable guess.

Frozen assets may mean she can use her funds for herself, but not others. Let’s see what kind of sister and devoted Keith follower Sara Bronfman turns out to be.

The arrest warrent talks about “co-conspirators.” That implies future arrests and charges.

They went with sex-trafficking because that would maximize cooperation by Mexican law emforcement. But that’s only the first round of charges.

The Feds must have enough that they think they can win without flipping Allison or Lauren or Nancy or others. Otherwise they would have charged them before arresting Raniere.

As any observer of the Raniere-verse knows, everyone has been so addled by Raniere that without him available to direct them, they can be rolled up at leisure.

The Feds will still try to flip as many as they can (an act of mercy, since they are also arguably victims)

CC-2 is India Oxenberg:

From the Warrant:
In or about 2016, RANIERE co-founded “The Delegates” with CC-2, which is a business that provides a network of people who can perform tasks for people in the Nxivm community in exchange for a fee.

From an earlier Frank Report:
India Oxenberg: This 27 year old beauty spent more than $100,000 on trainings and expenses to live in Clifton Park. Started having sex with Keith. Got branded. Now she is in substantial debt to ESP for trainings. Much like Dawn Morrison did 20 years earlier, India started a business based on one of Keith’s ideas. Her business, Delegates, is a personal errand service for ESP students coming to Clifton Park to take ESP courses.

Repost, as the original one was probably lost in the tsunami of posts and comments over the last week:

CC-1 is Allison Mack of course: https://frankreport.com/2018/03/27/allison-mack-expected-to-be-arrested-next/

CC-2 is India Oxenberg, identified by the warrant’s mentioning her as the co-founder of ‘The Delegates’:

From the Warrant: In or about 2016, RANIERE co-founded “The Delegates” with CC-2, which is a business that provides a network of people who can perform tasks for people in the Nxivm community in exchange for a fee.

This is a repost, I believe the original one was largely lost in the tsunami of comments since the arrest:

“They went with sex-trafficking because that would maximize cooperation by Mexican law emforcement. But that’s only the first round of charges.”

Thank you for sharing your observation.

I think his guilt has been sufficiently demonstrated. What worries me is how many people he drags through the mud to lie and cheat his way through a defense. You sycophants are shameless aiders and abettors. And for those actions, I hope you all get a well deserved time out. Remember that those actions are also punishable. A fact that I think you’ve all forgotten as you are so focused on what he wants you to believe. For him, the time out should be endless. When the rest of you finally wake from your delusional slumber, perhaps you can plea bargain your way out. If you choose not to, I hope you will all be forgotten soon as you rot in custody. Good luck with all that.

Can you see that your language is very similar to how people are coerced? The very thing which has resulted in the abuses and hurt amongst so many people.

You sound like one of Keith’s exploration of meaning coaches. One with lots of stripes.

From the “can you see” [that is so loaded, you are one slick bastard] to the “your language” [so general to be useless] is “very similar” [suggesting an exact specificity, and, like “can you see,” implying expert status and objective knowledge], you manipulatively parse language like a pro. (Was Keith your mentor?)

And “the very thing which has resulted in the abuses” is special enough to warrant its own paragraph. So talking, aka using language, about unethical people and situations is ethically equivalent to being those people and being in those situations? Like I said, slick.

The real question is: What words struck a chord so deeply that you felt compelled to respond? Was it the “shameless aiders and abettors?” Was it “his guilt has been sufficiently demonstrated?” Or maybe “wake from your delusional slumber?”

You are assuming much which isn’t there. And no, I am not a coach of any kind. Are you an expian? If so, I suspect you are still traumatized by what has been done to you. I recommend you to see a therapist / exit counselor.

Anonymous, The previous commenter doesn’t sound at all like an expian, (considering their opinion of Keith,) however you sound not only as though you are defending Keith, but you are as passive-aggressively abusive as suggested by the other commenter.

I wouldn’t even comment on this if you didn’t sound exactly like one of the assholes who have harassed me for the last few years. Perhaps you abusers have all trained at the same school for manipulative trolls?

Flowers, it wasn’t obvious to me whether the person is an expian or not. I know people are super pissed and it’s eating us all up from the inside, and I found it helpful to see an exit counselor so I could channel my anger better. And no, I am not defending Keith in anyway, I am as pissed at him as you or anyone else. I apologize for how my inability to communicate better may have come across as seeming like I was defending him or being manipulative. It will probably take a while for myself to heal as well and completely deprogram from the shit we learned there and believed was helpful in relating… when it’s not.. What he has done is inexcusable and frankly in my experience the most painful and saddest shit I have experienced. I am not even sure whether even after putting him away, all the suffering he has created could be healed.. We all need healing and my intention is to only direct those who are suffering because of our experience to the resources that may be helpful.

Hmm. …not really buying it, anonymous.

The very abusive people who have decided they had the right to mess with my life (and who may not be involved in NXIVM at all) but who certainly are brainwashed by a cult, tend to use the same language/tactics as you do.

The fact is that a cult leader is powerless without his followers. ..sorry to say this, but without other people making poor choices (choosing to disregard basic commonsense and decency and showing a total lack of empathy)a person such as Raniere, could do no harm at all.
Those who choose to follow evil people need to take some responsibly for their actions.
As a person who had zero involvement in any type of cult, I am angry to have had to dealt with this bullshit. …bullshit that i never would have experienced if these people who targeted me had had the decency to treat others with respect.

But my entire life and privacy was invaded…last week they even hacked my email program in retaliation because I am continuing to investigate them. So they accessed my email and opened a draft that read “wow, you’re something aren’t you?”

I don’t know if I am “something” , but I am someone who knows I would never do to
anyone what has been done to me.
And I certainly won’t accept exuses from those who have participated in hurting other people.

Ah, you are not an expian either. In that case I have nothing to say or apologize to you or prove to you. I wish you good luck with dealing with whatever you are going through. Only expians or someone who has been adversely affected by a cult truly understand what happens. My support is only for those who have been through this and and get it. You are starting to sound more like a troll. I have nothing more to say to you.

How am I a troll? Perhaps look up the definition before you start labelling.
Btw, I’ve commented here for months, as have other people who are not espians and are also not trolls. Is there some where here where it specifies that to comments you must be a former espian or else you’re a troll? Of course not…but I can see why more than 1 commentor was annoyed by your attitude. Lol

Definitely sounds like a cult but so far all I’ve read is the participants VOLUNTARILY consented. Our country was originally founded by religious nuts, fleeing persecution. An inconvenient truth. Personally I don’t have a pony in the race but as for the prosecution’s case, that dog won’t hunt. It’s called the First Amendment. I see little difference between these folks and Scientology. Would suggest Keith boy spend the bucks on a world class attorney. Too bad Gerry Spence retired.

There is a place in hell for Keith Raniere and the blood is on all that tries to defend this monster!!!!

About the Author

Frank Parlato is an investigative journalist.

His work has been cited in hundreds of news outlets, like The New York Times, The Daily Mail, VICE News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Post, New York Daily News, Oxygen, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, The Sun, The Times of London, CBS Inside Edition, among many others in all five continents.

His work to expose and take down NXIVM is featured in books like “Captive” by Catherine Oxenberg, “Scarred” by Sarah Edmonson, “The Program” by Toni Natalie, and “NXIVM. La Secta Que Sedujo al Poder en México” by Juan Alberto Vasquez.

Parlato has been prominently featured on HBO’s docuseries “The Vow” and was the lead investigator and coordinating producer for Investigation Discovery’s “The Lost Women of NXIVM.” Parlato was also credited in the Starz docuseries "Seduced" for saving 'slave' women from being branded and escaping the sex-slave cult known as DOS.

Additionally, Parlato’s coverage of the group OneTaste, starting in 2018, helped spark an FBI investigation, which led to indictments of two of its leaders in 2023.

Parlato appeared on the Nancy Grace Show, Beyond the Headlines with Gretchen Carlson, Dr. Oz, American Greed, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, where Parlato conducted the first-ever interview with Keith Raniere after his arrest. This was ironic, as many credit Parlato as one of the primary architects of his arrest and the cratering of the cult he founded.

Parlato is a consulting producer and appears in TNT's The Heiress and the Sex Cult, which premiered on May 22, 2022. Most recently, he consulted and appeared on Tubi's "Branded and Brainwashed: Inside NXIVM," which aired January, 2023.
