Toscano to work as consultant....
The Broadway Market met yesterday. Amidst a general feeling of cautious optimism the new Broadway Market board listened intently as board member and consultant Frank Toscano unveiled a plan to bring the 113 year old ethnic market back to what it was once: a viable and unique Buffalo Market Place.
People have to come there to shop from outside of the immediate Broadway Fillmore area, Toscano explained, as he spoke about strategic billboards in Buffalo, intelligent and cost effective advertising, working with NFTA to deliver better access to the market with bus routing, and finding ways (including working with realtors) to find new and diverse types of vendors. According to sources there are new vendors interested in moving to the market and under Toscano’’s plan it may be possible to secure as many as 30 new vendors in the next two years.
Toscano was a former VP at Tops Supermarket and was appointed to the board by City Comptroller Anthony Nanula.
Meanwhile, Joe Petruso, the former ED of the market continues in his interim role, while the search continues for a permanent ED.
Some sources mentioned that the Board is considering naming Toscano to that role and may offer a salary in the 55-65K range. Toscano in addition to serving on the board, has also been retained to do some consulting work on behalf of the market.
